A new foot overbridge has been inaugurated in Ghaziabad, providing a seamless connection between the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) station and the Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda metro station on the Delhi Metro's Red Line, officials said. The bridge allows commuters to switch between the high-speed regional rail service and the metro without leaving station premises, significantly reducing transfer times and easing congestion in one of the region's busiest transport corridors. At around 300 metres long and 6.5 metres wide, the structure links the Namo Bharat RRTS station directly with the metro concourse, improving last-mile connectivity for daily travellers. The Greater Mohali Development Authority (GMDA) has announced plans to complete a long-pending stormwater drainage project in sectors 62 to 65 to resolve recurring waterlogging during monsoon and heavy rainfall events. The authority said the unfinished drain, originally part of the town planning scheme, had been stalled due to land acquisition delays and funding issues. Once completed, the drain is expected to channel excess surface runoff efficiently into nearby water bodies, reducing flooding on internal roads, residential areas and commercial hubs in the affected sectors. GMDA has issued tenders and is finalising contracts to expedite the remaining works, with construction set to begin shortly and phased completion targeted over the coming months. The project is part of broader efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and enhance liveability in the rapidly growing satellite city adjacent to Chandigarh.Read more
