The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has directed the town and country planning department to implement a rule mandating sewage treatment plants (STPs) for residential complexes with 24 or more flats, reducing the earlier 50 flat threshold. The decision follows repeated complaints about non-functional or poorly maintained STPs in several complexes and scientific assessment of wastewater generation. Builders must install and operate STPs for three years or until handover to residents associations, ensuring proper wastewater treatment. The High Court has noted the matter and left the final threshold decision to the state government.Read more

A group of 102 architects, planners, and designers from the Mumbai Architects Collective has opposed the redevelopment plan of the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, raising concerns about underground construction, parking structures, and tunnels. They have urged the Maharashtra government and MCGM to provide full transparency on lease terms, development rights, funding, and environmental impact. While supporting better public access, they warn that large-scale excavation could damage natural drainage, reduce open space, and affect flood management. They recommend directing resources to maintain and improve existing municipal gardens and parks instead.Read more

Plans to remove 16 homes in the Piliyakhal area of Indore to make way for an underground metro station near the Bada Ganpati site have advanced to the stage where demolition is scheduled for later this month, local officials say. Sixteen properties listed on official records are to be cleared, but residents say 28 families currently live there and are seeking alternative rehabilitation closer to their original neighbourhood. Authorities have proposed relocating the affected households to flats in the Tapti Complex at Rangwasa under the national housing programme, with INR1.29 crore already deposited for 16 units, though many residents argue that the distance will disrupt daily routines and children's schooling. Administrative officials have moved to address concerns by assuring support with school admissions for children under the Right to Education scheme while the relocation process progresses.Read more

The extension of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited's Phase II network between Poonamallee Bypass and Vadapalani is approaching the point of commissioning, but the final timeline remains uncertain as key safety trials and funding issues are resolved. Officials have signalled that the stretch of approximately 14.6 kilometres, featuring 11 stations and connecting the new line with the existing Vadapalani interchange, could be brought into service soon after completing mandatory safety clearances and certification procedures. Recent interim budget remarks by the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister highlighted progress and planned extensions of the metro project, though he also noted delays in central funding commitments under the shared cost model for the corridor, which has increased state borrowing. While the Poonamallee Porur section has passed recent inspections, regulatory scrutiny of the Porur Vadapalani segment has identified items requiring rectification, potentially affecting the launch schedule. Pending the completion of these works and final approval from safety authorities, partial operations on the Phase II corridor may begin shortly, with further work continuing on remaining stations and broader project corridors.Read more
