While speaking at an event organised by the rural development department at YB Chavan Centre, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis announced the state government’s intentions to create its own housing to ensure Maharashtra becomes the first state in the country to provide ‘housing for all’. Through the PMAY Rural scheme, the government has allotted over 10 lac homes till date. The new scheme coined Awaas Plus intends to create an additional 3.5 lac homes for those who are not eligible for PMAY and other housing schemes.
While speaking at an event organised by the rural development department at YB Chavan Centre, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis announced the state government’s intentions to create its own housing to cater to individuals that did not qualify for the PMAY and other housing schemes so far.

The event was organised to congratulate and facilitate those involved in executing PMAY (rural) scheme in Maharashtra. The state department has successfully achieved their target of providing 10.5 lac homes with only a few delays on account of encroachments and non-availability of plots. With the new scheme Awaas Plus, a target of 3.5 lac homes has been set. The government will frame new policies to ensure that Maharashtra becomes the first state to provide ‘housing for all’.
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis has taken several steps to improve existing systems and introduce new amendments and policies to create housing for all. Earlier this year, he intervened to offer homes to those in the police force at a concessional rate of 15 lac rupees in Worli. He revived the home loan scheme benefiting the police force and has been actively pushing for single window clearances for redevelopment projects across the state. He has been instrumental in kickstarting and is actively involved in redevelopment of mammoth slums in Mumbai such as BDD Chawls and Bhendi Bazaar.
