Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has constituted a committee to examine notices issued by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) over commercial activities being conducted in residential buildings. The committee, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, will study the issue and work towards a practical and public-interest solution. The panel includes the urban development and housing minister, rural development minister, cooperation minister and a legislative council member. The move follows a delegation’s meeting with the chief minister seeking resolution of the notices issued by the civic body.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has constituted a committee to examine notices issued by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding commercial activities being carried out in residential buildings. The state government announced the formation of the panel on August 25, 2026, following concerns over the notices issued by the civic body.
The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary. Its members include Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Kumar Mishra, who will serve as member secretary, Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, Cooperation Minister Ramkripal Yadav and Legislative Council member Sanjay Kumar Singh.
According to the state government’s official release, the committee will study the matter related to the notices issued by the Patna Municipal Corporation and determine a course of action towards a practical and public-interest solution. The panel is expected to examine the concerns surrounding commercial activities in residential properties before recommending the way forward.
The development follows a delegation meeting with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to seek a resolution to the notices issued by the Patna civic body. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the chief minister, according to the government release. The delegation included MLAs Sanjeev Chaurasia, Ratnesh Kushwaha, Shyam Rajak and Sanjay Gupta.
The issue concerns the use of residential buildings for commercial purposes, bringing municipal enforcement and land-use considerations into focus. The formation of a dedicated committee indicates that the state government intends to examine the matter before determining how the notices should be addressed.
The panel's mandate is not limited to reviewing individual notices. The government release states that the committee will study the broader issue and ensure action towards a practical solution that also serves public interest. This could provide a framework for addressing concerns raised by property users and other stakeholders affected by the municipal notices.
