MMRDA is awaiting a final technical report from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) regarding the additional height required for the overhead equipment system on Mumbai Metro Line 7A. SYSTRA-CEG-SMCIPL, the project's General Consultant/Engineer, was responsible for design and coordination of permissions, including airport-area height restrictions. However, the additional OHE height requirement was not adequately considered during the relevant design and planning stage. MMRDA is following up with AAI and will assess the technical implications and determine the next steps after receiving the final clearance.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is awaiting technical clearance from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on the additional height required for the overhead equipment (OHE) system for the Metro Line 7A project.
SYSTRA-CEG-SMCIPL was appointed as the General Consultant/Engineer for the project and was responsible for its design as well as coordinating the required permissions, including height restrictions in the airport area. However, the additional height requirement for the OHE system was not adequately considered by the consultant at the appropriate stage of design and planning.
MMRDA is currently coordinating with AAI to obtain approval for the additional height. The final technical report and confirmation from AAI are awaited to determine the permissible height and whether any changes will be required in the project design.
Once the report is received, MMRDA will carry out a detailed technical evaluation and decide on the further course of action based on AAI's technical assessment.
The AAI assessment will determine whether the additional OHE height can be permitted within the airport area and whether the project design needs to be modified. MMRDA's subsequent technical evaluation will therefore be important in establishing the way forward for the affected section of Metro Line 7A. Until the final confirmation is received, the authority has not taken a decision on any design changes arising from the additional height requirement.
