The Centre is monitoring 1,775 ongoing infrastructure projects worth a revised INR 37.11 lakh crore across 17 ministries and departments as of July 2026. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways accounts for the largest share with 993 projects valued at INR 9.62 lakh crore, while the Ministry of Railways is implementing 190 projects with a revised cost of INR 6.38 lakh crore. Cumulative expenditure across all monitored projects has reached INR 19.26 lakh crore, or about 51.91% of the revised project cost. Transport and logistics remains the largest infrastructure sector by project count and value.
The Centre is tracking 1,775 ongoing infrastructure projects with a combined revised cost of INR 37.11 lakh crore as of July 2026. The projects, each valued at INR 150 crore or more, are being monitored across 17 central ministries and departments through the government’s project monitoring framework. Cumulative expenditure on these projects has reached INR 19.26 lakh crore, equivalent to around 51.91% of their revised cost.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways accounts for the largest number of projects under monitoring, with 993 projects, representing 56% of the total. These projects have a combined revised cost of INR 9.62 lakh crore, giving the ministry a 26% share of the overall revised project expenditure.
The Ministry of Railways is the second-largest contributor by project count, with 190 projects under implementation. Their combined revised cost stands at INR 6.38 lakh crore, accounting for 17% of the total revised cost of projects being monitored.
Other major project portfolios include the Ministry of Coal with 121 projects valued at INR 2.22 lakh crore, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas with 103 projects worth INR 4.23 lakh crore, and the Ministry of Power with 98 projects carrying a revised cost of INR 6.08 lakh crore. The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs is implementing another 50 projects with a combined revised cost of INR 3.78 lakh crore.
Transport and logistics continues to dominate the infrastructure pipeline when projects are classified by sector. It comprises 1,246 projects, or about 70% of the projects being monitored, with a combined revised cost of INR 19.81 lakh crore. The category covers roads and highways, railways, aviation, urban public transport, shipping and inland waterways.
The energy sector follows with 205 projects and a revised cost of INR 10.66 lakh crore. Water and sanitation projects account for 53 projects worth INR 2.05 lakh crore, while communication infrastructure comprises 31 projects with a revised cost of INR 1.34 lakh crore. Social and commercial infrastructure accounts for 91 projects valued at INR 0.99 lakh crore.
The project pipeline includes both recently initiated works and schemes nearing completion. As of July 2026, 675 projects, or around 38% of the total, had achieved more than 80% physical progress, while 305 projects had crossed 80% financial completion. The data indicates that a substantial portion of the infrastructure portfolio is moving into advanced stages of execution.
During July, 36 additional projects were brought under the monitoring framework. These included six projects from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, along with projects from telecommunications, steel, industry promotion, housing and urban affairs, and power. Among the newly added projects were the INR 13,037.66-crore Jaipur Metro Rail Project Phase 2 and a INR 1,418.16-crore package of the Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Highway.
Several projects were also commissioned during the month, including the INR 2,069.6-crore Aligarh-Kanpur Package I and the INR 2,298.37-crore Dwarka Expressway Package III. The government is scheduled to release the next flash report, covering August 2026, on September 25.
