India house price index rises 1.1% in Q1 FY27, RBI data shows

Synopsis

India’s All India House Price Index (HPI) rose 1.1% quarter-on-quarter during the April-June quarter of FY27, supported mainly by higher house prices in Chandigarh, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram, according to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data. On a year-on-year basis, the index increased 3.6% in the first quarter of FY27, matching the growth recorded in the same quarter a year earlier. Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram were among the cities that contributed most to the annual increase. The RBI compiles the index every quarter using transaction-level data from registration authorities.

India’s All India House Price Index (HPI) increased 1.1% in the April-June quarter of FY27 compared with the previous quarter, with Chandigarh, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram among the cities driving the increase, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). 
On an annual basis, the HPI grew 3.6% in the first quarter of FY27. The annual growth was unchanged from the corresponding quarter of the previous year, with Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram making the main contributions to the increase. 
The RBI compiles the HPI on a quarterly basis using transaction-level data received from property registration authorities. The index tracks house price movements across 18 cities, providing an indicator of changes in residential property prices across major housing markets. 
The cities covered by the RBI’s HPI include Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Pune, Ghaziabad, Thane, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Chandigarh and Nagpur.
