The Haryana government has approved two road infrastructure projects worth a combined INR 68.69 crore in Gurugram, covering the long-pending missing link between Sectors 68 and 69 and the upgradation of the 7.1-km IFFCO Chowk-Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) corridor. Approved at a High Powered Works Purchase Committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, the projects will add service roads, footpaths, cycle tracks, stormwater drainage and junction improvements. The Sector 68-69 project will provide an alternative connection towards Sohna Road and SPR, while the IFFCO-SPR upgrade will improve movement across several established residential and commercial sectors.
The Haryana government has approved two road projects worth a combined INR 68.69 crore in Gurugram, covering the missing link between Sectors 68 and 69 and the comprehensive upgradation of the 7.1-km IFFCO Chowk-Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) corridor. The approvals were given on August 18 at a High Powered Works Purchase Committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, with both projects targeted for completion within one year.
The first project, costing about INR 26.83 crore, will complete the missing section of the dividing road between Sectors 68 and 69. Work on the road began in 2019 but was held up by land acquisition issues. A 1.1-km section was developed in 2022, leaving an incomplete stretch that has continued to restrict movement between the surrounding sectors.
The approved work will complete the missing portion and develop nearly 2 km of associated service road infrastructure. The project also includes stormwater drains, footpaths, cycle tracks and green areas, while the existing road section will undergo repairs. Once completed, the connection will provide an alternative route between Sohna Road and SPR, improving access to Sectors 68, 69, 70, 70A, 75 and 76.
The road is also expected to provide an alternative route while the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) undertakes planned works on the SPR. This could help distribute traffic across the surrounding road network during construction activity on the main corridor.
The second project involves the 7.1-km IFFCO Chowk-SPR corridor and has been approved at about INR 41.86 crore. The route passes through sectors including 27, 28, 29, 43, 44, 52, 52A, 56 and 57, linking established residential and commercial areas with the SPR. The corridor also includes key junctions and metro access points.
Under the upgrade, the main carriageway will receive a new bituminous overlay, while footpaths and cycle tracks will be developed on both sides. The project also provides for stormwater drainage and improvements at road junctions, along with safety measures intended to make pedestrian movement safer.
The IFFCO Chowk-SPR route carries substantial daily traffic, particularly during peak hours, and serves commuters travelling between central Gurugram and the city’s expanding southern development areas. Its improvement is expected to strengthen connectivity for residents and businesses in the sectors located along and around the corridor.
The projects also place greater emphasis on infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists alongside improvements to vehicle movement. GMDA chief executive officer P C Meena said the works were being planned as comprehensive corridor upgrades covering carriageways, service roads, pedestrian facilities, cycling infrastructure, drainage and junctions.
The approvals come as Gurugram continues to expand towards its southern sectors, with residential and commercial development increasing around the SPR and Sohna Road. The new road link and corridor upgrade are intended to strengthen the supporting road network as development spreads across these areas. Both projects are scheduled to be completed within a year.
