The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced the results of its latest housing lottery, with 2,640 applicants securing affordable homes across Mumbai. The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has declared the results of its latest housing lottery, allotting 2,640 affordable homes to successful applicants across Mumbai. The lottery marks another step in the state's efforts to provide reasonably priced housing to residents from different income groups in one of India's costliest real estate markets.
The housing units are spread across multiple locations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and have been offered under various income categories, including the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), Middle Income Group (MIG) and Higher Income Group (HIG). The initiative seeks to make homeownership more accessible through a transparent, computerised lottery system.
The draw witnessed participation from thousands of applicants, reflecting the continued demand for affordable housing in Mumbai. With escalating property prices limiting homeownership opportunities for many families, MHADA's lottery schemes remain one of the most sought-after avenues for purchasing homes at regulated prices.
Following the announcement of the results, successful applicants will be required to complete document verification, payment procedures and other statutory formalities before the allotment process is finalised. MHADA will also verify the eligibility of winners in accordance with the conditions prescribed under the housing scheme.
Officials said the lottery is part of MHADA's broader housing programme aimed at increasing the supply of affordable residential units in Mumbai. The authority continues to develop new housing projects while redeveloping older colonies to optimise land use and create additional housing stock in the city.
Affordable housing remains a key challenge in Mumbai, where high land costs and limited availability of developable land have pushed property prices beyond the reach of many households. Government-backed schemes such as MHADA's lotteries play an important role in expanding access to formal housing for eligible residents.
Urban planning experts note that sustained development of affordable housing, combined with redevelopment initiatives and improved infrastructure, will be essential to addressing Mumbai's growing housing demand. As more projects are launched in the coming years, MHADA is expected to remain a significant contributor to the city's affordable housing ecosystem.
