Afcons Infrastructure has secured the Letter of Acceptance from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for the design and construction of a desalinated water conveyance tunnel connecting the proposed pumping station at Manori to Charkop and Mahavir Nagar in Kandivali. Valued at INR 1,918 crore, including GST and operations and maintenance, the project is aimed at strengthening Mumbai's long-term water supply network. The company said the project adds to its portfolio of major water infrastructure works, including ongoing tunnel and water supply projects for BMC, CIDCO and other government agencies in India and overseas.
Afcons Infrastructure Ltd has received the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the design and construction of a desalinated water conveyance tunnel connecting the proposed water pumping station at Manori to Charkop and extending to Mahavir Nagar in Kandivali, Mumbai. The contract is valued at INR 1,918 crore, including GST and operations and maintenance (O&M).
The project forms part of Mumbai's efforts to strengthen its water supply infrastructure by integrating desalinated water into the city's distribution network. The proposed tunnel is expected to transport water from the upcoming desalination facility to key distribution points in the western suburbs, supporting the city's growing demand for potable water.
Commenting on the development, Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Chairman of Afcons Infrastructure Ltd, said the desalinated water conveyance tunnel is an important step towards ensuring a sustainable water supply for Mumbai and reflects the company's engineering capabilities and experience in executing complex infrastructure projects.
Managing Director S. Paramasivan said the company was pleased to partner with BMC once again. He added that, along with the Kasheli–Mulund water conveyance tunnel, the desalinated water tunnel project would be executed within the stipulated timeline while maintaining high execution standards.
The latest order further strengthens Afcons' presence in the urban water infrastructure segment. The company is currently executing BMC's 7.13-km underground water conveyance tunnel between Kasheli and Mulund. It has also undertaken CIDCO's 8.7-km treated water tunnel in Navi Mumbai, rural water supply projects in Uttar Pradesh and water supply works in Rajasthan.
Apart from water conveyance projects, Afcons has completed the Annaram Barrage in Telangana, which forms part of one of the world's largest multi-stage irrigation projects. Over the years, the company has been involved in several hydro and water infrastructure developments across India.
Beyond India, Afcons has executed water supply projects in several African countries, including Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Benin and Rwanda, expanding its presence in sustainable infrastructure development. The company has been involved in delivering water supply systems and related infrastructure in these markets over the years.
