Synopsis

News Corp reported better-than-expected financial results for its fourth quarter, supported by strong growth in its digital real estate, Dow Jones and book publishing businesses. The company posted revenue of USD 2.34 billion, surpassing analysts' estimates, while adjusted earnings per share nearly doubled from a year earlier. Revenue from digital real estate services rose 19%, reflecting continued demand for online property platforms. The company also highlighted progress in expanding AI-related content licensing discussions with technology firms, building on agreements already signed with OpenAI and Meta.

News Corp, the publisher of The Wall Street Journal, reported stronger-than-expected financial results for its fourth quarter, driven by continued growth in its digital real estate, Dow Jones and book publishing businesses. The performance reflects the company's ongoing shift towards digital operations, reducing its dependence on traditional print media while strengthening its subscription and online services.
The media company reported fourth-quarter revenue of USD 2.34 billion, exceeding analysts' average estimate of USD 2.23 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. Adjusted earnings per share nearly doubled to USD 0.35, compared with USD 0.19 in the corresponding period last year. The figure was also well above analysts' expectations of USD 0.21 per share.
Among its business segments, Dow Jones recorded a 7% increase in quarterly revenue, supported by steady demand for its news, financial information and subscription offerings. Digital real estate services revenue increased 19%, making it one of the strongest-performing businesses during the quarter. News Corp's digital real estate portfolio includes property marketplace businesses operating across multiple international markets and has remained an important contributor to the group's overall earnings in recent years.
The company's book publishing division, led by HarperCollins, also contributed to the improved quarterly performance, alongside continued expansion in its digital businesses.
News Corp has increasingly focused on building a digital-first business model, allowing it to benefit from rising demand for premium digital content and subscription-based services. The strategy has also positioned the company to explore commercial opportunities linked to artificial intelligence through content licensing agreements with technology companies.
Chief Executive Officer Robert Thomson said the company has established trusted content partnerships with OpenAI and Meta and indicated that discussions with several other technology companies are at an advanced stage for similar licensing arrangements.
News Corp has been among the global media companies actively pursuing licensing agreements with AI developers to ensure the use of its journalism is compensated. These agreements have become increasingly important as artificial intelligence companies seek access to high-quality news content for training and developing generative AI models.
