Serentica Renewables has commissioned the first phase of its 1 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Bikaner, marking its entry into utility-scale energy storage for India's commercial and industrial (C&I) sector. The initial phase comprises a 200 MWh battery storage system designed to support round-the-clock renewable power supply for industrial consumers. The project underpins one of the world's first time-block-based round-the-clock renewable energy arrangements for the C&I segment. The company also plans to build a 7 GWh battery order pipeline over the next two years as it expands its energy storage portfolio to improve the reliability of renewable power for industrial users.
Serentica Renewables has commissioned Phase 1 of its 1 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Bikaner, marking the company's entry into utility-scale battery storage for India's commercial and industrial (C&I) sector. The company announced the development on Wednesday, stating that the first phase comprises a 200 MWh battery energy storage system.
The Bikaner facility has been developed to support one of the world's first time-block-based round-the-clock (RTC) renewable power arrangements for industrial consumers. According to the company, the battery storage system enables intermittent renewable energy generated from sources such as solar and wind to be stored and supplied as dependable clean power throughout the day, helping industrial consumers access continuous renewable electricity.
Serentica Renewables said the commissioning of the first phase represents a key step in expanding its clean energy infrastructure beyond renewable power generation into large-scale energy storage. The project is intended to improve the reliability and dispatchability of renewable energy for industrial users, addressing one of the principal challenges associated with variable renewable power generation.
Chief Executive Officer Akshay Hiranandani said the commissioning of the first phase of the company's 1 GWh BESS project marks an important milestone in its efforts to provide reliable, round-the-clock renewable energy to India's industrial sector. He indicated that battery storage would play a central role in enabling continuous clean power supply for commercial and industrial consumers.
The company further stated that it plans to build a battery order pipeline of 7 GWh over the next two years, reflecting its expansion strategy in the energy storage segment. The proposed pipeline is expected to support the development of one of India's largest battery storage portfolios dedicated to commercial and industrial customers.
Battery Energy Storage Systems are increasingly being deployed alongside renewable energy projects to store surplus electricity generated during periods of high production and discharge it when generation falls or demand rises. Such systems are regarded as an important component in supporting round-the-clock renewable power supply, particularly for industrial consumers seeking greater reliability while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
The commissioning of the Bikaner project adds to the growing deployment of utility-scale battery storage infrastructure in India as developers seek to strengthen renewable energy integration and improve the stability of power supply for large commercial and industrial users.
