The Chhattisgarh government has allotted 79.7 acres of land at a concessional rate to state-owned Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) for establishing the state's first heavy earth-moving equipment manufacturing plant in Mungeli district. The proposal, approved by the state cabinet, aims to strengthen industrial development in the region while creating employment opportunities and supporting ancillary industries. The facility will be developed at Chandragarhi village under Patharia tehsil and is expected to generate direct jobs, provide technical training and stimulate growth in sectors including logistics, transportation, MSMEs and spare parts manufacturing.
The Chhattisgarh government has approved the allotment of 79.7 acres of land at a concessional rate to Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) for setting up the state's first heavy earth-moving equipment manufacturing plant in Mungeli district. The proposal received approval at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday, officials said on Thursday.
The manufacturing facility will be established in Chandragarhi village under Patharia tehsil, around 30 km from the Bilaspur–Raipur National Highway. According to the state government, the project will mark the first heavy earth-moving equipment manufacturing unit in Chhattisgarh and is expected to strengthen the state's industrial and engineering manufacturing base.
Officials said the proposed plant is expected to create direct employment opportunities for local residents while supporting skill development through technical training programmes. The project is also expected to encourage the growth of ancillary industries, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), logistics services, transportation businesses and spare parts manufacturing units.
Mungeli Collector Kundan Kumar said the project would provide a foundation for industrial development in the district and create new employment opportunities for local youth. He stated that the establishment of the manufacturing facility would contribute to the development of an industrial ecosystem in the district while promoting modern engineering and manufacturing activities.
The site selection process involved multiple government departments before the proposal was submitted to the state government. Patharia Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rekha Chandra said Raigarh and Janjgir-Champa districts were initially under consideration for the project.
She added that, under the guidance of the Mungeli district administration, a joint team comprising officials from the District Trade and Industries Centre and the Revenue Department identified 79.70 acres of suitable government land in Chandragarhi village. The proposal was subsequently forwarded to the state government, which has now secured cabinet approval.
The decision forms part of the state's broader efforts to attract manufacturing investments and expand industrial activity beyond its traditional sectors. By establishing a heavy earth-moving equipment manufacturing facility, the government aims to strengthen industrial infrastructure in Mungeli district while creating opportunities for supporting businesses and supply chain enterprises linked to engineering and heavy equipment production.
BEML, a state-owned manufacturer of heavy equipment, supplies machinery for sectors including mining, construction, defence, rail and infrastructure. The proposed plant in Chhattisgarh will add to the company's manufacturing footprint while supporting industrial development initiatives in the state.
