Beijing has deployed 72 robotic employees across its municipal parks this summer to undertake tasks such as cleaning, patrolling, visitor assistance, pest detection and promoting compliance with park regulations. According to state-run Beijing Daily, the robots are helping park authorities improve operational efficiency by supporting routine maintenance and visitor management across public green spaces.The deployment is part of China's broader push to integrate robotics into public services under its national "Robot Plus" strategy. The initiative reflects the country's efforts to address an ageing population, labour shortages and growing demand for AI-driven automation in urban management.
China has introduced 72 robotic employees across Beijing's municipal parks as part of a pilot initiative to modernise public services and improve park management through automation. According to state-run Beijing Daily, the robots have been deployed this summer to perform a range of operational and visitor-support functions across the capital's public parks.
The robotic workforce has been assigned responsibilities including cleaning pathways, conducting security patrols, providing guided tours, detecting pests and reminding visitors to follow park regulations. By taking over routine tasks, the robots are intended to improve operational efficiency while allowing human staff to focus on more complex maintenance and administrative responsibilities.
Officials said the robots are designed to support day-to-day park operations by combining artificial intelligence with autonomous mobility. In addition to maintaining cleanliness and monitoring public spaces, they also assist visitors with navigation and information, contributing to a more organised and technology-enabled park experience.
The deployment forms part of China's wider "Robot Plus" strategy, a national initiative aimed at expanding the application of robotics across industries and public services. The programme seeks to accelerate the adoption of intelligent machines in sectors where automation can improve productivity, service quality and operational efficiency.
China has increasingly embraced robotics in response to long-term demographic and economic challenges, including an ageing population, shrinking workforce and rising labour costs. Rapid advances in artificial intelligence and robotics have further encouraged the country to integrate automated systems into public infrastructure and municipal services.
The deployment of robotic employees in Beijing's parks reflects the country's broader vision of using emerging technologies to enhance urban governance and public service delivery. As China continues to expand AI-powered applications in civic administration, initiatives such as this are expected to play a growing role in the management of public spaces and city infrastructure.
