Synopsis

A new 600-passenger luxury cruise has been launched on the Narmada River at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat to strengthen tourism infrastructure around the Statue of Unity. Commercial operations will begin after the required statutory approvals and safety clearances are obtained. The new vessel has been introduced to meet rising tourist demand and will serve as both a sightseeing cruise and a venue for social, cultural and corporate events. It joins the existing 200-passenger cruise already operating in the area and is expected to further enhance visitor experiences at one of India's leading tourism destinations.

A new 600-passenger luxury cruise vessel has been launched on the Narmada River at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat's Narmada district, further expanding tourism infrastructure around the Statue of Unity. According to a state government release issued recently, the new vessel is expected to strengthen the range of attractions available at the destination, which is home to the world's tallest statue dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The government said commercial operations of the cruise will begin after all statutory approvals are received and the prescribed safety requirements are fulfilled.
The Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SOUADTGA) already operates a 200-passenger cruise on the Narmada River, offering visitors views of the Statue of Unity, the river and the surrounding landscape. The authority said the service has received a strong response from tourists over the years.
With tourist footfall continuing to increase, the larger cruise has now been introduced to cater to rising demand and expand the tourism offerings at Ekta Nagar.
Apart from sightseeing, the new vessel has been designed as a multi-purpose floating venue capable of hosting a variety of social, cultural and corporate events. The government said it can be used for birthday celebrations, corporate gatherings, product launches, musical evenings, cultural performances, private functions and other special occasions, offering visitors a different experience on the Narmada River.
The cruise has also been equipped with decorative architectural lighting to enhance the experience during evening and night operations. Combined with its larger capacity and modern facilities, the vessel is expected to become one of the key attractions at Ekta Nagar.
The 30-metre-long cruise can accommodate up to 600 passengers, while its dining area has seating for 250 people. It also features a 5-metre by 4-metre stage for live performances and organised events.
Ekta Nagar has witnessed continuous tourism infrastructure development since the Statue of Unity was inaugurated in 2018. Over the years, the destination has added attractions such as river cruises, jungle safari, cactus garden, butterfly garden, children's nutrition park, Ekta Mall, Valley of Flowers and other recreational facilities to encourage longer visitor stays and promote tourism-led economic activity in the region.
The SOUADTGA said it remains focused on developing world-class tourism infrastructure to strengthen Ekta Nagar's position as one of India's leading tourism destinations. The addition of the new cruise is also expected to support destination weddings, corporate events, cultural programmes and private celebrations while widening the range of experiences available to visitors.
