Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth around INR 333 crore in Chamba district, including 15 road infrastructure works aimed at improving connectivity in remote areas. The projects also cover drinking water, healthcare, education and public infrastructure. The initiative is expected to strengthen rural accessibility, improve public services and support economic development in one of the state's key hill districts.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has laid the foundation stones for 15 road projects in Chamba district as part of a wider development package valued at approximately INR 333 crore. The projects are intended to improve transport infrastructure and enhance connectivity across remote and hilly regions of the district.
The proposed road works are expected to provide better access to villages that experience connectivity challenges due to difficult terrain. Improved roads will facilitate smoother movement of people, agricultural produce and essential goods while enhancing access to schools, healthcare facilities and government services.
Alongside the road projects, the Chief Minister inaugurated and announced several initiatives covering drinking water supply, education, healthcare and civic infrastructure. The combined investment is aimed at addressing infrastructure gaps while improving the quality of public amenities available to residents across Chamba.
During the programme, Sukhu reiterated the state government's focus on strengthening infrastructure in rural and mountainous regions, stating that road connectivity remains a critical driver of social and economic development. He emphasised that better transport links are essential for improving access to essential services and creating new opportunities for local communities.
Road infrastructure assumes particular importance in districts such as Chamba, where rugged topography and seasonal weather conditions often disrupt transportation. Upgrading the road network is expected to improve year-round connectivity and reduce travel difficulties faced by residents in remote villages.
The new projects are also expected to support sectors such as tourism, horticulture and small-scale businesses by improving accessibility and reducing travel time between rural areas and major markets. Enhanced connectivity can contribute to faster movement of goods and encourage greater economic activity across the district.
Infrastructure development has remained a key priority for the Himachal Pradesh government, with continued investments in roads, bridges and public facilities aimed at promoting balanced regional growth. By expanding transport and civic infrastructure simultaneously, the state seeks to improve both economic prospects and the overall quality of life in rural areas.
Once completed, the 15 road projects and associated development works are expected to strengthen Chamba's infrastructure network, improve public service delivery and support the district's long-term development while addressing the unique connectivity challenges of the Himalayan region.
