The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has strengthened road safety and traffic management measures across Amaravati Capital City by directing all implementing agencies to follow stricter rules for construction vehicles. A review meeting involving transport, engineering and project officials focused on enforcing speed limits, preventing overloading, improving traffic signage and increasing driver awareness. The authorities also decided to bring all project vehicles under the APCRDA QR Code Identification System to improve monitoring and accountability as infrastructure works continue across the capital city.
The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has directed all agencies involved in the development of Amaravati Capital City to strengthen road safety and traffic management measures across ongoing infrastructure projects. The directions were issued during a review meeting held to assess traffic management arrangements and improve safety standards within the capital city development area.
The meeting was chaired by Guntur District Transport Commissioner Sita Rami Reddy in coordination with APCRDA Engineer-in-Chief R. Gopala Krishna Reddy. Senior officials from APCRDA, Chief Engineers from ADCL and PgMC, representatives of Project Management Consultants (PMCs), and contractors participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, all implementing agencies were instructed to strictly enforce the prescribed speed limit of 40 km per hour for construction vehicles operating within the project area. Officials also directed agencies to prevent rash driving and vehicle overloading, ensure construction materials are transported with proper tarpaulin covers, deploy only licensed drivers, and maintain all mandatory vehicle documents as required under applicable regulations.
To improve safety for both commuters and workers, contractors were asked to install sufficient speed limit boards, warning and caution signs, solar blinkers at key junctions, lane markings and other traffic calming measures at all construction locations. They were also instructed to conduct regular Toolbox Talks (TBTs) and driver awareness programmes to encourage safe driving practices and ensure compliance with traffic safety norms.
The meeting also decided that all project vehicles operating within the Amaravati Capital City development area will be brought under the APCRDA QR Code Identification System. The move is aimed at improving vehicle monitoring, traceability and accountability across various project sites.
Amaravati has witnessed rapid infrastructure development over the past few years, with multiple road, utility and public infrastructure projects progressing simultaneously. As construction activity has increased, APCRDA has been placing greater emphasis on traffic management, worker safety and compliance with construction safety standards to minimise risks and ensure smooth movement within the developing capital region.
Officials stressed that coordinated implementation by all agencies, continuous monitoring and strict adherence to road safety standards and traffic management protocols will be essential to protect commuters and workers while ensuring that Amaravati Capital City's infrastructure projects progress on schedule.
