ACES India Private Limited has signed a 25-year agreement with Reliance Jio to provide 4G and 5G mobile connectivity across Mumbai Metro Aqua Line-3. The arrangement will enable Jio services through telecom infrastructure deployed by ACES India across the 33.5-km underground metro corridor, which has 27 stations between Aarey JVLR and Cuffe Parade. The network is designed for an ultimate capacity of more than 625 million passengers annually. The deployment will cover stations, platforms, concourses and tunnels, supporting voice, high-speed data and other digital services for commuters.
ACES India Private Limited has entered into a 25-year agreement with Reliance Jio to enable 4G and 5G mobile connectivity across Mumbai Metro Aqua Line-3, strengthening telecom infrastructure along the city’s major underground metro corridor. Under the agreement announced on August 19, Reliance Jio will provide mobile services using the digital infrastructure deployed by ACES India across the metro network.
The Aqua Line-3 extends approximately 33.5 kilometres between Aarey JVLR and Cuffe Parade, with 27 stations connecting several commercial, residential and transport hubs across Mumbai. A substantial portion of the corridor runs underground, requiring dedicated telecom infrastructure to maintain mobile connectivity through stations and tunnels.
ACES India has developed the mobile infrastructure that will support the telecom services. The arrangement with Jio will allow 4G and 5G services to operate across the network, including station platforms, concourses and underground sections of the line.
The infrastructure has been designed to support the metro’s projected long-term passenger demand. According to ACES India, the network has been built to accommodate an ultimate capacity of more than 625 million passengers annually.
The connectivity deployment is intended to support a range of commuter requirements, including voice calls, high-speed mobile data and other digital services. Continuous network coverage across underground sections is particularly relevant to passengers travelling through tunnels where conventional outdoor mobile infrastructure can have limitations.
ACES Group CEO Dr Akram Aburas said the long-term agreement with Reliance Jio forms part of the company’s focus on developing digital infrastructure for high-density urban environments. He said the deployment of 4G and 5G connectivity across the metro corridor would support a more connected commuter environment.
ACES India managing director Mohammed N Mazher said the agreement demonstrates the company’s capability to deploy telecom infrastructure in complex environments. He added that the infrastructure has been designed as a scalable platform that can support changing connectivity requirements and increasing mobile data consumption.
The partnership also places ACES India in the role of a neutral digital infrastructure provider, allowing telecom services to operate through infrastructure deployed specifically for the metro network. Such infrastructure can provide a common platform for mobile connectivity within transport facilities, where network deployment can involve technical and operational constraints.
For Mumbai Metro Aqua Line-3, the telecom infrastructure forms part of the wider technology systems supporting operations across the underground corridor. The line links Aarey JVLR with Cuffe Parade and provides connectivity between major parts of Mumbai, including commercial districts and transport nodes.
The 25-year term of the agreement provides a long-term framework for mobile connectivity services on the metro network. As passenger numbers and mobile data usage increase, the infrastructure is intended to accommodate higher demand and support newer generations of mobile and digital services.
The agreement between ACES India and Reliance Jio therefore adds dedicated 4G and 5G connectivity to one of Mumbai’s largest underground urban rail networks, covering the full route through its stations, concourses, platforms and tunnels.
