Uttar Pradesh has entered into a three-year strategic agreement with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) to strengthen freight movement, multimodal connectivity and logistics infrastructure across the state. The non-financial MoU, signed by Invest UP and DFCCIL, is aimed at improving access to dedicated freight corridors, supporting industrial development and identifying opportunities for logistics parks and freight-linked investments. The partnership is expected to help businesses use the state’s freight infrastructure more efficiently while supporting faster movement of goods and strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as a logistics and manufacturing hub.
Uttar Pradesh has partnered with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) through a three-year strategic agreement aimed at improving freight movement, strengthening multimodal connectivity and creating new opportunities for logistics and industrial investment across the state.
The non-financial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Invest UP, the state’s investment promotion agency, and DFCCIL. The partnership is intended to establish closer coordination between the state government and the organisation responsible for developing and operating India’s dedicated freight corridor network.
A key objective of the agreement is to improve the use of dedicated freight infrastructure by businesses operating in Uttar Pradesh. Dedicated freight corridors are designed to separate goods trains from passenger services, allowing freight trains to operate with fewer operational constraints and supporting faster and more predictable movement of cargo.
The partnership is particularly significant for Uttar Pradesh because both the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors have important connections within the state. The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor runs through several major industrial and commercial centres before connecting towards eastern India, while the Western corridor begins at Dadri and links the National Capital Region with ports and industrial centres in western India.
The agreement is expected to help identify opportunities for freight-linked infrastructure and investment around these networks. This could include logistics facilities, warehousing, multimodal connectivity projects and industrial developments that can benefit from direct access to dedicated rail freight services.
For Invest UP, the collaboration provides another mechanism to position the state’s logistics infrastructure as an investment proposition. Uttar Pradesh has been expanding its industrial and warehousing ecosystem, supported by expressways, airports, inland connectivity and large industrial corridors.
The state’s extensive road network also provides opportunities for combining rail and road freight. Better integration between these modes can enable businesses to move cargo over longer distances by rail while using road transport for first- and last-mile connectivity.
The agreement is also expected to support the identification and facilitation of investment opportunities associated with freight infrastructure. Coordination between DFCCIL and Invest UP could help prospective investors understand available logistics infrastructure and explore locations where industrial and warehousing facilities can be developed around freight corridors.
The partnership comes as freight infrastructure becomes increasingly important for India’s manufacturing, e-commerce, retail and export sectors. Efficient logistics can influence both the cost and reliability of supply chains, making access to high-capacity freight networks an important consideration for companies selecting locations for factories, warehouses and distribution centres.
Uttar Pradesh’s location within northern India gives it a strategic role in this network. The state is connected to major consumption markets in the National Capital Region and northern India, while its eastern and western freight links provide access to other industrial centres and ports.
DFCCIL’s freight corridors are also intended to improve the overall capacity of India’s rail network by shifting a greater proportion of goods traffic onto dedicated routes. The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor was completed in March 2026, while the Eastern corridor is operational, strengthening the wider national freight network.
For Uttar Pradesh, the three-year agreement provides a framework for closer institutional coordination as the state seeks to attract logistics-intensive industries and improve freight connectivity. The focus will be on translating existing rail infrastructure into wider economic opportunities through better multimodal integration and investment facilitation.
The partnership is therefore expected to strengthen the link between freight infrastructure and industrial development, while helping Uttar Pradesh build a more integrated logistics ecosystem around its dedicated freight corridor network.
