Income Tax Department conclave focuses on taxpayer services, litigation and future roadmap

Synopsis

A two-day conclave of senior Income Tax Department officials in Jaipur focused on improving taxpayer services, reducing litigation and strengthening the department’s infrastructure and future functioning. The meeting, chaired by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Ravi Agrawal, brought together Principal Chief Commissioners, Principal Directors General and other senior officials from across the country. Discussions covered e-HRMS, service matters, reservation policy, TDS administration, capacity building, systems, expenditure planning and coordination with other agencies. Officials also discussed infrastructure requirements at Income Tax offices and identified key priorities for the department.

Improving taxpayer services, reducing litigation and strengthening infrastructure were among the key issues discussed at a two-day conclave of senior Income Tax Department officials that concluded in Jaipur on Tuesday. 
The conclave brought together Principal Chief Commissioners of Income Tax and Principal Directors General of Income Tax from across the country. It was chaired by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Ravi Agrawal. 
During the meeting, Agrawal held interactive discussions with senior officers on the future direction of the Income Tax Department. He emphasised the need to convert suggestions and recommendations emerging from the deliberations into an actionable roadmap for the department’s future functioning, according to an official statement. 
A wide range of administrative and operational matters were also taken up during the conclave. These included e-HRMS, service-related issues, reservation policy, upcoming projects, the functioning of the Systems Directorate, capacity building, expenditure budget, tax deducted at source (TDS) administration and coordination between different government agencies. 
The officials also discussed infrastructure requirements and essential facilities at Income Tax offices across the country. The focus was on identifying requirements that could support the department’s day-to-day functioning and improve the working environment for its officials. 
Senior officers shared their views on the challenges currently faced by the department and discussed priorities that could guide its future operations. The deliberations covered both taxpayer-facing services and internal administrative systems, indicating a focus on improving the department’s functioning across different levels. 
The conclave was attended by CBDT members Pankaj Kumar Mishra, Sanjay Bahadur, Prasenjit Singh, G Aparna Rao, Pallavi Agrawal and Sunil Kumar Singh. Principal chief commissioners, principal directors general, commissioners of Income Tax (Administration) and other senior officers from different parts of the country also participated.
