Synopsis

R City Mall in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar has received LEED Platinum Certification, recognising its performance against global standards for environmental responsibility, operational efficiency and sustainable practices. Developed by Runwal Realty, the 1.2-million-square-foot mall houses more than 350 national and international brands, over 50 dining outlets, a nine-screen multiplex, family entertainment centres and event spaces. The certification comes as sustainability becomes an increasing focus for retail properties and their operations. Runwal Realty said the recognition reflects its efforts to combine environmental practices with retail, dining and entertainment offerings at the destination.

Runwal Realty’s R City Mall in Ghatkopar has received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum Certification for its sustainability and environmental performance. The certification recognises the mall’s adherence to globally benchmarked standards covering environmental responsibility, operational efficiency and sustainable practices.
Sandeep Runwal, Managing Director, Runwal Realty, said the certification was a milestone for the company and credited the R City and Runwal Realty teams for their work towards the achievement.
R City has also continued to expand its retail and entertainment offerings. Anuradha Singh, Head of Retail & Commercial, Runwal Realty, said the mall recently welcomed Mumbai’s first LEGO Certified Store and has also developed the Jewellery Souk, described by the company as India’s largest. She said the mall was focused on creating experiences beyond conventional retail.
Ashish Bhandari, Centre Head, R City, Runwal Realty, said the LEED Platinum certification reflected the mall’s focus on sustainability and operational efficiency while maintaining the consumer experience.
Spread across 1.2 million square feet, R City has more than 350 national and international brands, over 50 dining destinations, a nine-screen multiplex, family entertainment centres and event spaces. The mall also hosts events, seasonal activations and other visitor-focused activities.
The certification comes as sustainability is becoming a more important consideration in the development and operation of commercial and retail properties. For large-format retail assets, areas such as energy efficiency, resource management and environmental performance are increasingly being incorporated into building operations and long-term asset planning.
