Gujarat Cotex Ltd is expanding beyond its textile business by entering the infrastructure and real estate sectors through a new division, Prabhat Infratech. The division will undertake residential, commercial and apartment development projects, with an initial focus on Surat and emerging growth centres such as Dholera Smart City. The company said the diversification is aimed at creating additional long-term business platforms and revenue streams. The move will allow Gujarat Cotex to explore development opportunities in locations where infrastructure expansion and economic activity are expected to support demand for residential and commercial projects.
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Cotex Ltd has announced plans to enter the infrastructure and real estate sectors by setting up a new business division, Prabhat Infratech, as part of its broader diversification strategy.
Prabhat Infratech will focus on developing residential, commercial and apartment projects. The company plans to assess opportunities primarily in Surat and emerging growth centres such as Dholera Smart City, with projects to be taken up based on their commercial viability.
The proposed entry marks an expansion of Gujarat Cotex's operations beyond its existing textile business. The company said the diversification is intended to create additional long-term business platforms, explore new revenue opportunities and enhance value for stakeholders.
Dholera is among the locations being considered for the new infrastructure and real estate business. The Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) has been planned as a major industrial and investment zone in Gujarat, with infrastructure development aimed at supporting manufacturing, technology and other economic activities. Its development has also increased interest in residential, commercial and supporting real estate opportunities in and around the region.
For Gujarat Cotex, the proposed real estate business will therefore involve evaluating development opportunities in locations where commercial activity and infrastructure growth can support future demand. The company has not disclosed details regarding the size, investment or timeline of individual projects.
The infrastructure and real estate expansion is being undertaken alongside another proposed business division, Prabhat Oils, which will operate in the edible and refined oils segment. However, Prabhat Infratech represents the company's planned entry into property development and infrastructure-related activities.
Gujarat Cotex said the diversification is part of its strategy to build multiple business platforms over the long term rather than remain dependent on a single operating segment. The company will determine future projects based on their commercial feasibility and the potential of the markets in which it plans to operate.
