Delhi is set to develop Anand Vihar, Kashmere Gate and Sarai Kale Khan as multi-modal transport hubs to integrate different public transport systems and improve passenger connectivity across the capital. The three locations are being planned as key interchange points linking metro services with railways, interstate bus services and other modes of urban transport. The initiative is part of efforts to improve integration between Delhi’s major transport networks and facilitate smoother passenger movement between terminals and services. The hubs are expected to consolidate transport infrastructure at the three locations while improving interchange facilities for commuters. The plan involves coordination among multiple agencies responsible for Delhi’s transport and urban infrastructure, with the proposed hubs intended to support more seamless movement across the city’s major transport corridors.
Anand Vihar, Kashmere Gate and Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi are being developed as multi-modal transport hubs to bring different public transport services together and improve connectivity for commuters. The three locations have been identified as important interchange points where metro, railway and bus networks can be integrated within a coordinated transport system.
The proposed development is aimed at addressing the fragmented nature of transport infrastructure at major passenger nodes in the capital. By bringing multiple modes together, the hubs are intended to make transfers between services more convenient and improve connectivity between different parts of Delhi and the wider National Capital Region.
Anand Vihar is already an important transport centre with access to Delhi Metro, railway services and interstate bus operations. Its integration as a multi-modal hub would bring these facilities into a more coordinated passenger interchange system.
Kashmere Gate is another major transport node, with the Delhi Metro network, interstate bus services and other public transport facilities serving the area. The location is also an important connection point for passengers travelling towards northern parts of Delhi and neighbouring states.
Sarai Kale Khan has emerged as a significant transport interchange in south-central Delhi. The area is served by the Delhi Metro and railway network and has an interstate bus terminal. Its development as a multi-modal hub would consolidate these transport links and improve transfers between different modes.
The proposed approach reflects the broader requirement for Delhi to integrate its expanding public transport network rather than develop individual systems independently. Multi-modal hubs can allow passengers to move between metro, rail and bus services within connected transport facilities, reducing the need for separate journeys between terminals.
The three locations also have strategic significance because of their existing passenger volumes and links with regional transport networks. Anand Vihar connects eastern Delhi with Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the NCR, while Kashmere Gate provides connections towards northern Delhi and neighbouring states. Sarai Kale Khan serves as a gateway towards southern and eastern parts of the NCR.
The development will require coordination between agencies operating different components of Delhi's transport infrastructure. Metro services, railway facilities, bus terminals, roads, pedestrian infrastructure and other passenger amenities would need to be planned together to create integrated interchange points.
The proposal forms part of Delhi's wider efforts to strengthen public transport infrastructure and improve last-mile and inter-modal connectivity. The three hubs are expected to provide passengers with better connections between existing transport systems while supporting more efficient movement across the capital.
Further details on the implementation schedule, project costs, specific infrastructure components and agency-wise responsibilities will depend on the plans and approvals for each of the three locations. The initiative nevertheless places Anand Vihar, Kashmere Gate and Sarai Kale Khan at the centre of Delhi's proposed multi-modal transport network.
