Synopsis

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has organised a two-day exhibition at Vishnudas Bhave Natyagruha, Vashi, to mark Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on 14 August. The exhibition, being held on 13 and 14 August 2026, has been created by the Union Ministry of Culture and is being organised under the guidance of municipal commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. The display documents the suffering, sacrifice and struggles experienced by Indians during the Partition of 1947. Maharashtra forest minister Ganesh Naik and several civic and public representatives have visited the exhibition. Separately, the civic body will organise ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Tiranga’ exhibitions at its headquarters in CBD Belapur from 15 to 17 August as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign being observed from 9 to 17 August.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has organised an exhibition at Vishnudas Bhave Natyagruha in Vashi to commemorate Partition Horrors Remembrance Day and provide citizens with information on the events and circumstances surrounding the Partition of India in 1947. The exhibition is being held on 13 and 14 August 2026 under the guidance of municipal commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, following directions from the Union and Maharashtra governments.
Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is observed across India on 14 August to remember the suffering and sacrifices endured by Indians during the Partition of 1947, as well as the struggles faced by citizens during the period. The exhibition being hosted by the NMMC has been prepared by the Union Ministry of Culture as part of the commemorative programme.
The display has been made available to citizens at no cost over the two-day period. It seeks to provide visitors with an understanding of the circumstances and experiences associated with Partition, while conveying a message centred on national unity, social harmony and humanity. The civic body has appealed to citizens to visit the exhibition.
Maharashtra forest minister Ganesh Naik visited the exhibition and reviewed the displays. Navi Mumbai mayor Sujata Patil, deputy mayor Dashrath Bhagat, former Member of Parliament Sanjeev Naik, additional commissioners Sunil Pawar and Dr Rahul Gethe, city engineer Shirish Aradwad and other dignitaries also visited the exhibition.
The NMMC has also planned another exhibition at its headquarters in CBD Belapur as part of this year's ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. The campaign is being observed from 9 to 17 August 2026 following an initiative announced by the Union and state governments.
Under the programme, a ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Tiranga’ exhibition will be organised on the ground floor of the NMMC headquarters from 15 to 17 August. The civic body said the display is being organised against the backdrop of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ completing 150 years.
The NMMC has invited citizens to visit the exhibition at its headquarters during the three-day period. The two initiatives form part of the civic body's commemorative activities during the Independence Day period, with the Partition exhibition focusing on the historical experiences of 1947 and the second display highlighting the national song and the Tricolour under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
