Synopsis

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order valued between INR 10,000 and INR 15,000 crore to build the country's largest single-cluster artificial intelligence infrastructure facility, marking the company's entry into the AI Factory business. Through its AI infrastructure arm, LTN Compute, and its AI and data centre business, Vyoma.AI, L&T will set up an NVIDIA B300-based AI Factory at its Chennai data centre campus to power the AI-native cloud platform of US-based Together AI. The facility is intended to support large-scale inference, fine-tuning and training workloads, strengthening India's AI infrastructure ecosystem.

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) said on Thursday that it has secured an order valued between INR 10,000 and INR 15,000 crore to build the country's largest single-cluster artificial intelligence infrastructure facility, marking the company's entry into the AI Factory business.
The order will be executed through two of L&T's specialised units: LTN Compute, its AI infrastructure arm, and Vyoma.AI, its AI and data centre business. Together, the two units will set up an NVIDIA B300-based AI Factory at L&T's data centre campus in Chennai, intended to power the AI-native cloud platform of US-based Together AI.
According to L&T, the AI Factory will support large-scale inference, fine-tuning and training workloads for Together AI's cloud platform. The company said the facility is expected to strengthen India's AI infrastructure ecosystem while simultaneously supporting global innovation in artificial intelligence, positioning the Chennai campus as a significant node in the broader international AI compute landscape.
The move marks a strategic diversification for L&T, traditionally known for its core engineering, construction and infrastructure businesses, into the rapidly expanding AI infrastructure and data centre segment. The scale of the order, and its description as the country's largest single-cluster AI facility, reflects the growing investment activity in India's data centre and AI compute capacity, as global technology and cloud companies increasingly look to expand infrastructure footprints in the country.
The use of NVIDIA's B300 chip architecture for the facility points to the deployment of high-performance computing infrastructure designed for demanding AI workloads, including the training of large language models and other computationally intensive applications, an area witnessing sustained global investment as companies scale their AI capabilities.
Together AI, the US-based company whose cloud platform the facility is intended to power, operates in the AI-native cloud infrastructure space, providing computing resources for AI model training and deployment. The partnership with L&T's Chennai facility is expected to give the company access to large-scale, dedicated AI compute capacity based in India.
The report did not specify the expected timeline for completion or commissioning of the AI Factory, nor did it detail the specific capacity, in terms of computing power or number of GPU units, that the Chennai facility is expected to house once operational.
