Athulya Senior Care has inaugurated its third Integrated Geriatric Care Centre in Mathikere, Bengaluru, expanding its network of specialised healthcare and support services for senior citizens in the city. 
The new centre was inaugurated by Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T. Khader in the presence of Athulya Senior Care's founders, healthcare professionals and senior citizens. With the addition of the facility, Athulya now has more than 300 dedicated senior care beds across Bengaluru, making it the city's largest provider of integrated geriatric care, according to the company. 
The expansion comes at a time when Karnataka is seeing a growing requirement for dedicated elder care. According to the Sample Registration System (SRS) 2021 published by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner under the Ministry of Home Affairs, people aged 60 years and above account for 9.2% of Karnataka's population, placing the state among those with the highest proportion of older adults in India. 
The ageing population is also facing a rising burden of age-related health conditions. An international study has estimated the prevalence of dementia among people aged 60 years and above in Karnataka at 7.6%, slightly above the national average. 
India's elderly population is expected to nearly double over the coming decades, increasing the need for healthcare services that address long-term care, rehabilitation and age-related conditions alongside conventional medical treatment. 
Karnataka has also taken steps to address the growing need for dementia and brain health services. The state government has identified dementia as a public health priority through initiatives including the Karnataka State Dementia Action Plan and the Brain Health Initiative. These programmes focus on improving awareness, supporting early diagnosis and strengthening integrated care for people with cognitive disorders. 
Athulya's Mathikere centre adds to these efforts by providing specialised geriatric healthcare, cognitive care and long-term support services for senior citizens. 
Minister U.T. Khader said the state's healthcare infrastructure would need to strengthen geriatric services as Karnataka prepares for the requirements of an ageing population. He noted that facilities combining healthcare, rehabilitation and long-term support can complement government efforts to improve elder care and support healthy ageing. 
Srinivasan G., Founder and CEO of Athulya Senior Care, said Bengaluru's growing demand for specialised senior care was being driven by longer life expectancy, changing family structures and greater awareness of assisted living. He added that Karnataka remains an important market for the company's expansion and that the Mathikere centre would strengthen its presence in the state. 
The company plans to build an integrated senior care ecosystem combining clinical services, technology-enabled rehabilitation and caregiving to address the changing requirements of older adults and their families, he said.

He said the Mathikere facility had been designed around these requirements and that specialised geriatric care would increasingly form part of Bengaluru's healthcare infrastructure as the city grows. 
Located in Mathikere, a well-connected residential neighbourhood of Bengaluru, the purpose-built centre has around 100 beds and has been designed specifically for senior citizens. It provides multiple services and support facilities within the same premises. 
The facility includes dedicated therapy and rehabilitation areas, technology-enabled physiotherapy services, including virtual reality-based rehabilitation, specialised memory care infrastructure and emergency medical support. It also has living spaces designed for seniors, diet management facilities and recreational areas intended to support active ageing and overall wellbeing. 
Athulya Senior Care currently provides assisted living, transition care, rehabilitation, memory care, palliative care and home healthcare services across multiple cities. The company is headquartered in Chennai and has more than 1,500 beds across over 12 locations in Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad and Coimbatore. It said it has served more than 50,000 seniors. 
The company has positioned its operations around an integrated senior care model covering assisted living, mind and memory care, transition care, rehabilitation and palliative care. Its expansion in Bengaluru comes as the demand for organised senior care services grows alongside India's ageing population.
