Synopsis

Sri Lankan shares closed higher for a fourth consecutive session, supported by gains in real estate and communication services stocks. The CSE All Share Index rose 0.22% to 21,417.47, while trading volume increased marginally to 123.9 million shares. Market turnover more than doubled to 3.81 billion Sri Lankan rupees, equivalent to about USD 11.4 million. Foreign investors remained net sellers, selling shares worth 2.38 billion Sri Lankan rupees, while domestic investors bought stocks worth 3.79 billion Sri Lankan rupees. SMB Finance and Industrial Asphalts were among the leading gainers.

Sri Lankan equities continued their upward movement, with the market recording its fourth consecutive session of gains as investors bought shares in the real estate and communication services sectors. The CSE All Share Index closed 0.22% higher at 21,417.47. The index had ended the previous session at 21,370.09, according to Colombo Stock Exchange data.
SMB Finance PLC and Industrial Asphalts (Ceylon) PLC were the top percentage gainers on the CSE All Share Index. The gains in real estate-related stocks contributed to the broader positive movement in the market.
Trading activity also increased during the session. The volume on the CSE All Share Index rose to 123.9 million shares from 122.3 million shares in the previous session.
Market turnover recorded a sharper increase, reaching 3.81 billion Sri Lankan rupees, compared with 1.89 billion Sri Lankan rupees in the previous session. Based on the reported exchange rate, the latest turnover was equivalent to around USD 11.4 million.
Investor participation remained divided between foreign and domestic investors. Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading shares worth 2.38 billion Sri Lankan rupees. Domestic investors, meanwhile, were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 3.79 billion Sri Lankan rupees.
The latest movement comes after a stronger year for trading activity on the Colombo Stock Exchange. According to Sri Lanka's Securities and Exchange Commission, equity market turnover reached 1.23 trillion Sri Lankan rupees in 2025, compared with 537.64 billion Sri Lankan rupees in 2024. The number of equity shares traded also increased to 46.65 billion in 2025 from 23.25 billion in 2024.
Real estate has also featured among the sectors supporting market gains in recent months. In a previous market session reported by Reuters, communication services, healthcare and real estate stocks were among the sectors leading a broader rise in Sri Lankan equities.
The latest session therefore reflects continued buying interest in selected sectors, although the foreign selling indicates that overseas investors remained cautious. The stronger domestic buying helped offset the foreign outflows and supported the market's fourth straight positive close.
