Synopsis

• JSW MG Motor India will invest INR 1,400 crore in FY27 to expand manufacturing capacity, increase localisation and support new product development in India.
• The investment will raise annual production capacity at the Halol, Gujarat, plant from 1.2 lakh units to 1.6 lakh units by March 2027.
• The company plans to launch four new passenger vehicles during the financial year, spanning electric, hybrid and internal combustion engine segments as part of its multi-powertrain strategy.
• JSW MG Motor India will also increase localisation levels, with the MG Windsor expected to surpass 70 per cent local content, aiming to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce supply-chain dependence.

JSW MG Motor India will invest INR 1,400 crore during the current financial year to expand production capacity at its manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat, increase localisation across its product portfolio and introduce four new passenger vehicles as it strengthens its presence in India's fast-growing new energy vehicle (NEV) segment.
The company disclosed its investment plans in the past week, stating that the expenditure will be directed towards expanding manufacturing operations, supporting new product launches and increasing the share of locally sourced components. The investment forms part of its broader strategy to improve production capabilities while reducing reliance on imported parts amid evolving global supply-chain dynamics.
A significant portion of the investment will be utilised to enhance manufacturing capacity at the Halol plant, where annual production capacity is expected to increase from 1.2 lakh units to 1.6 lakh units by March 2027. The capacity expansion is intended to accommodate higher volumes as the company broadens its product portfolio and responds to growing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles in the domestic market.
Alongside the manufacturing expansion, JSW MG Motor India plans to introduce four new passenger vehicles during FY27. The upcoming portfolio is expected to include products across the electric, hybrid and internal combustion engine segments, reflecting the company's multi-powertrain approach to the Indian market. The planned launches follow the company's continued emphasis on new energy vehicles, which have become a key focus area following the formation of the JSW MG Motor India joint venture.
The automaker is also accelerating localisation efforts across its existing vehicle range. Company executives indicated that localisation levels for the MG Windsor are expected to exceed 70 per cent, up from current levels, as additional components are sourced domestically. Increasing local content is expected to improve supply-chain resilience, lower exposure to import-related disruptions and enhance cost competitiveness.
The localisation programme is aligned with the company's wider objective of strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities while supporting India's automotive supply ecosystem. Greater sourcing from local component manufacturers is also expected to reduce dependence on overseas suppliers for critical parts.
The planned investment follows a period of expanding sales for the company, driven largely by demand for its electric vehicle portfolio. Rising consumer interest in battery electric vehicles and hybrid technologies has encouraged manufacturers to increase production capacity and introduce new models across different price segments.
Industry observers note that automobile manufacturers operating in India have continued to invest in domestic production facilities despite global economic uncertainties, with localisation, manufacturing efficiency and supply-chain stability emerging as key priorities. For JSW MG Motor India, the latest investment is expected to reinforce its manufacturing footprint at Halol while supporting its future product pipeline and expanding its presence in India's evolving passenger vehicle market.
