The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has extended its special property tax collection camps until July 31, 2026, allowing property owners across Chennai additional time to clear pending property tax dues. The civic body announced the extension in July 2026 as part of its efforts to improve tax collection and provide residents with easier access to payment facilities.
The special camps were introduced to support property owners in completing their tax payments through dedicated collection arrangements. Through these centres, residents can make payments and seek assistance regarding property tax-related requirements. The initiative is aimed at improving convenience for taxpayers while helping the corporation increase compliance levels.
Property tax is one of the primary revenue sources for urban local bodies and contributes towards financing essential municipal functions. The revenue collected is used for maintaining civic infrastructure, providing public services and supporting day-to-day administrative activities carried out by the corporation.
The GCC has been working towards improving property tax collection mechanisms through multiple payment options. Residents can make payments through digital platforms, designated collection centres and other authorised channels provided by the civic body. The special camps provide an additional assisted option for property owners who may require support while completing their payments.
The extension of the camps until July 31 comes as the corporation continues its focus on improving revenue mobilisation. Regular property tax collection enables local administrations to plan and execute civic works, including road maintenance, sanitation services, stormwater management and other urban infrastructure-related activities.
The corporation has urged property owners to utilise the extended period and complete pending tax payments within the revised timeframe. The additional window is expected to help residents who were unable to make payments earlier due to various reasons, while also supporting the civic body’s collection efforts.
