• Brigade Hotel Ventures Limited (BHVL) plans to invest around INR 1,100 crore to develop three Hyatt-branded hotels in Chennai, strengthening its hospitality portfolio and expanding its presence in South India's premium hotel market.
• The projects include Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR, Hyatt Regency Chennai and Hyatt Place Chennai OMR, collectively adding nearly 600 keys to the city's hospitality inventory over the next few years.
• Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR, expected to open in 2029, will feature about 200 rooms, multiple dining venues, wellness facilities and extensive MICE infrastructure, targeting business travellers, leisure guests and destination weddings.
• The expansion aligns with BHVL's long-term growth strategy and Hyatt's India expansion plans, reflecting growing demand for premium branded hotels driven by business travel, tourism and large-scale events in Chennai.
Brigade Hotel Ventures Limited (BHVL) is set to deepen its footprint in Chennai with an investment of nearly INR 1,100 crore towards three Hyatt-branded hotel developments, as the company looks to capitalise on growing demand for premium hospitality assets in one of South India's fastest-growing urban markets.
The expansion will be anchored by Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR, a luxury beachfront hotel planned along the East Coast Road, alongside Hyatt Regency Chennai and Hyatt Place Chennai OMR. Collectively, the three developments are expected to add close to 600 rooms to Chennai's hospitality inventory over the coming years, reinforcing Brigade's long-term strategy of expanding through partnerships with global hotel operators.
Among the projects, Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR is positioned as the flagship development. Scheduled to open in 2029, the beachfront property will feature around 200 guestrooms, multiple dining concepts, wellness facilities and extensive banquet and convention infrastructure. The hotel is being designed to cater to luxury leisure travellers, destination weddings, staycations and the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) segment, which continues to witness strong growth in India.
The company believes East Coast Road offers significant long-term potential due to its coastal location, improving connectivity and increasing popularity as a destination for both tourism and large-scale events. By bringing the Grand Hyatt brand to the corridor, Brigade aims to create a landmark hospitality destination capable of attracting both domestic and international visitors.
The investment programme also includes Hyatt Regency Chennai and Hyatt Place Chennai OMR, broadening Brigade's presence across different hospitality segments. While Hyatt Regency will target upscale business and convention travellers, Hyatt Place will focus on guests seeking modern accommodation in Chennai's growing information technology corridor.
The announcement builds on Brigade's expanding relationship with Hyatt. Earlier this year, Brigade Group also signed an agreement for Hyatt House Bengaluru Devanahalli, a 135-key serviced apartment development scheduled to open in 2027 near Kempegowda International Airport. Designed primarily for extended stays, the project is expected to benefit from the rapid development of the Devanahalli technology and aerospace corridor.
According to Brigade Hotel Ventures Managing Director Nirupa Shankar, the company's collaboration with Hyatt reflects its strategy of creating landmark hospitality assets in high-growth urban markets. She noted that Grand Hyatt Chennai ECR represents an important milestone in Brigade's hospitality expansion and is expected to strengthen the company's premium hotel portfolio.
For Hyatt, the new developments support its broader expansion strategy in India, where rising business travel, domestic tourism and organised events continue to drive demand for internationally branded hotels. The company sees Chennai and Bengaluru as priority markets with strong long-term growth potential.
Brigade Hotel Ventures currently owns and develops hotels across key Indian cities, primarily in South India. Its portfolio comprises nine operational properties with more than 1,600 rooms operated under international brands including Marriott, Accor and InterContinental Hotels Group. The planned Chennai developments are expected to further strengthen the company's presence in the premium hospitality sector while supporting the city's evolving tourism and business ecosystem.
