Synopsis

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will undertake a feasibility study for a proposed double-decker corridor integrating a metro viaduct with a road flyover between Keshav Puram and Rohini Sector 34 in north-west Delhi. The proposal forms part of the approved 16.29-km metro corridor under Delhi Metro Phase IV and seeks to optimise limited urban space while improving road and metro connectivity. The study will assess the project's technical and financial viability, engineering requirements and traffic integration before a final decision is taken. If found feasible, the corridor would become another example of integrated transport infrastructure in the Capital, supporting more efficient land utilisation and reducing the need for separate elevated structures.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will carry out a feasibility study to evaluate the construction of an integrated double-decker corridor comprising a metro viaduct and road flyover between Keshav Puram and Rohini Sector 34. The proposal, announced during the past week, forms part of the approved 16.29-km metro corridor under Phase IV of the Delhi Metro expansion and is intended to optimise urban space while improving multimodal connectivity across north-west Delhi. 
According to DMRC, the study will examine the engineering, operational and financial feasibility of developing a double-decker structure that accommodates metro services on one level and a flyover for vehicular traffic on another. The assessment will also consider traffic movement, land availability, construction challenges and integration with the existing transport network before any decision is taken on implementation. 
The Keshav Puram–Rohini Sector 34 corridor is one of the new metro lines approved under Delhi Metro Phase IV to improve connectivity in rapidly developing parts of the national capital. Stretching 16.29 km, the elevated corridor is expected to serve residential neighbourhoods and commercial areas while providing additional interchange opportunities with the existing metro network. 
The proposed double-decker configuration is intended to maximise the use of available right of way by combining two transport facilities within a single elevated structure. Such an approach can reduce the overall land requirement, minimise construction footprints and limit disruption compared with developing separate metro viaducts and road flyovers. Similar integrated structures have previously been incorporated on select stretches of the Delhi Metro network where space constraints made conventional infrastructure development more challenging. 
Officials indicated that the feasibility study would determine whether the corridor can accommodate both transport systems while meeting safety, operational and engineering standards. The findings will help establish the project's technical viability, estimated costs and implementation requirements before detailed planning progresses. 
The proposed corridor is part of Delhi's broader efforts to expand its mass transit network alongside improvements to road infrastructure to address increasing travel demand. By examining integrated transport solutions, the authorities aim to make more efficient use of limited urban land while enhancing connectivity between north-west Delhi's residential areas and the wider metro network. The outcome of the study will determine whether the double-decker concept is adopted for the Keshav Puram–Rohini Sector 34 route.
