Synopsis

The Central government has approved infrastructure projects worth INR 1,647 crore for Delhi under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, providing funding for 28 proposals submitted by the Delhi government. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the sanctioned projects include Delhi Metro works, the Barapulla Elevated Corridor, the Karawal Nagar Flyover, electric vehicle charging stations at Delhi Transport Corporation depots and several road infrastructure initiatives. In addition to the project approvals, the Centre has sanctioned a performance-based incentive of INR 756 crore, taking the total financial support to more than INR 2,400 crore. The approvals are expected to accelerate the execution of key urban infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, public transport and civic infrastructure across the national capital.

The Central government has approved 28 infrastructure projects worth INR 1,647 crore for Delhi under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, paving the way for the implementation of several transport and urban infrastructure developments across the national capital. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the approvals on Sunday, stating that the projects would strengthen connectivity and public infrastructure while supporting the city's long-term development plans.
According to the Chief Minister, the sanctioned projects include Delhi Metro-related works, the Barapulla Elevated Corridor, the Karawal Nagar Flyover, electric vehicle charging stations at Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depots and multiple road infrastructure projects. These initiatives are intended to improve urban mobility, reduce congestion and enhance public transport facilities across different parts of Delhi.
Gupta said her government had prioritised securing approvals under the SASCI scheme from the outset and had consistently engaged with the Central government to obtain support for Delhi's infrastructure proposals. She stated that the approvals reflected continued cooperation between the Centre and the Delhi government in advancing public infrastructure projects.
Alongside the project approvals, the Centre has sanctioned a performance-based incentive of INR 756 crore for Delhi. The additional allocation increases the total Central financial support linked to the scheme to more than INR 2,400 crore, providing further resources for capital expenditure and urban development works.
The approved projects form part of the Centre's Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment programme, which provides financial assistance to states and Union Territories for capital infrastructure projects aimed at improving public assets and stimulating economic activity. Under the scheme, governments are encouraged to undertake projects that strengthen transport networks, civic amenities and essential urban infrastructure.
The inclusion of Metro infrastructure, flyovers and electric vehicle charging facilities reflects Delhi's continued focus on expanding sustainable urban transport while addressing growing mobility requirements. Road improvements and elevated corridor projects are also expected to enhance traffic movement and connectivity across key locations in the city.
The approvals represent one of the larger rounds of infrastructure funding sanctioned for Delhi under the SASCI scheme and are expected to facilitate faster execution of projects that have been awaiting financial clearance. The sanctioned works span transport, road and urban utility infrastructure, supporting the city's broader capital investment programme and public infrastructure expansion.
