Speaking during the inauguration and foundation-laying of national highway projects valued at over INR 4,850 crore in Lucknow, Gadkari also approved new road works worth INR 50,000–60,000 crore following a review meeting with state officials. The announcement reinforces the Centre's continued focus on expanding highway infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, with the projects expected to improve regional connectivity and support economic activity. The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, alongside senior government officials.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced that road infrastructure projects worth approximately INR 5 lakh crore will be completed across Uttar Pradesh over the next two years. The announcement was made on Monday during a programme in Lucknow where the minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for three National Highway projects with a combined investment exceeding INR 4,850 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Gadkari said the Centre had also approved new road projects worth between INR 50,000 crore and INR 60,000 crore after reviewing proposals with state officials earlier in the day. He assured Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that all the projects discussed during the meeting had received approval and would be taken forward alongside the ongoing highway development programme.
The minister said the projects form part of the Centre's continued investment in strengthening the state's transport network through the expansion and upgrading of National Highways. The planned works are intended to improve connectivity across Uttar Pradesh while supporting the movement of passengers and freight through a more extensive road network.
The event was attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior government representatives. During the programme, Gadkari reiterated the Centre's commitment to accelerating infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh and said the state's road network had witnessed significant expansion in recent years.
According to the minister, infrastructure development remains a key driver of economic growth, helping improve logistics, attract investment and strengthen industrial activity. He said better road connectivity also contributes to tourism, employment generation and regional development by reducing travel time and improving access between cities and districts.
The latest announcements add to the Centre's ongoing highway expansion programme in Uttar Pradesh, which has remained one of the priority states for road infrastructure investment. The newly approved projects are expected to complement existing National Highway developments while expanding the state's transport capacity over the coming years.
The inauguration of the three highway projects worth more than INR 4,850 crore marks another phase in the state's infrastructure pipeline, while the proposed investments of nearly INR 5 lakh crore over the next two years underline the scale of planned road development. The additional approvals worth INR 50,000–60,000 crore are expected to further strengthen Uttar Pradesh's highway network as new projects move into the implementation stage.
