Chhattisgarh has completed more than 11 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) over the past two-and-a-half years, with nearly six lakh homes delivered during FY2025-26, the highest annual completion by any state in the country. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai marked the milestone in Raipur by handing over house keys to beneficiaries and releasing a progress report on the 'Mor Gaon-Mor Pani' campaign. The state has also completed 1.51 lakh houses in the first 100 days of the current financial year, while continuing to expand rural water conservation works alongside its housing programme.
Chhattisgarh has completed more than 11 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) within the past two-and-a-half years, with the state recording the highest single-year completion rate in the country. The milestone was announced during the past week at an event in Raipur, where Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai distributed house keys to selected beneficiaries and released a progress report on the state's rural water conservation initiative, 'Mor Gaon-Mor Pani'.
According to an official statement, the state government approved the release of funds for 18 lakh PMAY houses during its first cabinet meeting after assuming office in December 2023. Since then, sustained implementation of the housing scheme has resulted in the completion of more than 11 lakh homes across Chhattisgarh, significantly expanding rural housing infrastructure.
The state completed nearly six lakh houses during the previous financial year, representing the highest number of PMAY houses delivered by any state in a single year. The pace of construction has continued into the current financial year, with 1.51 lakh houses completed between April 1 and July 9. Officials said the state has been completing more than 1,500 houses every day during the first 100 days of FY2026-27.
Alongside the housing programme, the Chief Minister released a compendium highlighting the progress of the 'Mor Gaon-Mor Pani' (My Village-My Water) campaign. The initiative, launched on Panchayati Raj Day on April 24, 2025, focuses on promoting water conservation, groundwater recharge and sustainable rural resource management through community participation.
Officials said more than one lakh water conservation and augmentation works, valued at over INR 2,000 crore, have been approved under the campaign. The projects are being implemented through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and the state's VB-G-RAM G initiative. The works include the construction of livelihood ponds, new village ponds, contour trenches and other water-harvesting structures aimed at strengthening groundwater recharge, improving water availability and supporting rural livelihoods.
The state government said the simultaneous progress in rural housing and water conservation reflects its integrated approach towards improving rural infrastructure and living conditions. By combining large-scale housing delivery with investments in water resource management, the administration aims to strengthen long-term rural development while supporting beneficiaries through improved housing, enhanced water security and employment generation under ongoing public infrastructure programmes.
