Amazon India has partnered with the Telangana government to establish five new Ashray rest centres at high-footfall locations across Hyderabad, taking its total network in the city to 14 centres. Under the agreement, the state government will assist with site identification, approvals and administrative coordination through the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation. The initiative is aimed at improving facilities for delivery drivers. Amazon currently operates more than 100 Ashray centres across 16 Indian cities and plans to expand the network to 250 centres by the end of 2026 as part of its wider investment in workforce welfare.
Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government to establish five new Ashray rest centres in high-footfall locations across Hyderabad. The initiative is aimed at improving support facilities for delivery drivers and strengthening community infrastructure in the city.
Under the agreement, the Telangana government, through the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, will help identify suitable locations for the centres, facilitate the required approvals and provide administrative support to enable their establishment.
According to the company, the partnership reflects a shared effort between Amazon India and the Telangana government to improve access to shelter and essential support services for delivery personnel and strengthen community infrastructure in the region.
With the addition of these five facilities, Amazon India's Ashray network in Hyderabad will increase to 14 centres.
Amazon launched the Ashray initiative in 2024 as a network of dedicated rest centres for delivery drivers across the e-commerce and logistics sector. These centres provide basic amenities such as clean drinking water, seating areas, mobile charging points, washrooms, first-aid facilities and rest spaces. The facilities are open to delivery partners across different logistics and e-commerce companies and are not limited to Amazon's own delivery associates.
Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary to the Telangana government for Metropolitan Area and Urban Development, said the state looked forward to working with Amazon India to improve the working conditions of delivery drivers across Telangana.
Amazon India currently operates more than 100 Ashray centres across 16 cities in the country. The company plans to expand this network to 250 centres by the end of 2026 as part of its broader strategy to improve welfare infrastructure for delivery associates.
Salim Memon, Director – Operations, Amazon India, said the company's expansion of the Ashray network forms part of its wider investment of more than INR 2,800 crore towards strengthening the safety, health and well-being of associates across its operations network. He added that the company continues to invest in the people supporting last-mile delivery as it works towards expanding the network nationwide.
The Ashray programme is part of Amazon India's broader efforts to improve working conditions for delivery personnel amid the rapid growth of India's e-commerce and logistics sector. With increasing demand for last-mile delivery services, companies have been expanding welfare initiatives alongside logistics infrastructure to support delivery partners working in different weather conditions and urban environments.
