Meghalaya has taken a significant step towards strengthening its information technology ecosystem with StaffFlex Resolutions LLP signing an agreement with the Meghalaya Technology Parks Society to lease space at Shillong Technology Park-II. The agreement, signed during the NASSCOM Industry Leaders' Meet 2026 in Shillong, makes StaffFlex the first confirmed occupant of the new technology park and marks the beginning of its commercial operations.
The event, organised by the Information Technology & Communications Department, Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with NASSCOM, brought together industry leaders, technology companies and government officials to discuss the state's digital economy, IT-enabled services and employment opportunities for local youth. The leasing agreement was described as a milestone in operationalising Meghalaya's expanding IT infrastructure while reinforcing investor confidence in the state's emerging technology ecosystem.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the development of Meghalaya's IT sector has been the result of sustained efforts spanning nearly two decades. He highlighted the completion of Shillong Technology Park-II, the upcoming IT park in Tura and the government's focus on building an ecosystem where technology businesses can grow through infrastructure, industry partnerships and local talent development.
The Chief Minister stressed that the government's priority is to achieve tangible outcomes rather than signing agreements that fail to translate into investments. He assured industry stakeholders of long-term support and called for collaboration among government agencies, industry partners, educational institutions and entrepreneurs to strengthen the state's digital economy.
A roundtable discussion with representatives from leading IT, business process management (BPM) and technology firms focused on accelerating Meghalaya's startup ecosystem and digital transformation. Participants proposed establishing a dedicated innovation hub, creating a high-level startup task force and developing a structured roadmap based on successful models from other states to guide policy implementation.
Industry leaders also emphasised the need to prepare a future-ready workforce by integrating skills such as artificial intelligence, prompt engineering, cybersecurity and digital fundamentals into academic curricula. Suggestions were also made to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, simplify regulatory approvals and enhance ease of doing business. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment between the government and industry to position Shillong as a regional hub for IT services, innovation and AI-driven governance supported by improved infrastructure and coordinated ecosystem development.
