Delhi clears key land allotments to speed up Metro, water supply and civic infrastructure projects

Synopsis

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved a series of long-pending land allotments to remove hurdles affecting several infrastructure and public welfare projects across the capital. The approvals include land for new Delhi Metro facilities, more than 150 borewells, waste management infrastructure, police stations and public utilities. The decisions are expected to accelerate project execution, improve urban services and strengthen civic infrastructure. The move is also aimed at improving coordination among government agencies and ensuring that land-related issues do not delay essential public projects in Delhi.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved several long-pending land allotments for infrastructure and public welfare projects across the national capital, paving the way for faster execution of works related to public transport, water supply, sanitation, policing and civic services. The approvals are intended to remove administrative bottlenecks that had delayed multiple projects for months.
Among the major approvals, around 20 hectares of land have been allotted to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for a Metro depot at Sanoth. Another 16 hectares in Narela have been allocated for a casting yard, which will support ongoing Metro construction activities. The additional facilities are expected to strengthen Metro expansion works and improve project execution capacity.
The Lieutenant Governor has also approved land allotments for more than 150 borewells to improve Delhi's water supply infrastructure. The decision is expected to help agencies enhance groundwater availability in several parts of the city where additional water infrastructure has been pending due to land-related issues.
To improve solid waste management, land has been allotted to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for 24 Fixed Compactor Transfer Station (FCTS) sites. These facilities are designed to streamline waste collection, reduce transportation time and improve the efficiency of municipal solid waste handling across the capital.
Land has also been allocated for strengthening Delhi's security infrastructure. The approvals include sites for new police stations at Dilkusha Bagh, Sagarpur and other locations, which are expected to improve policing and public service delivery in growing urban areas.
Apart from transport, water and policing projects, the approvals cover several public utility and welfare-related works that had remained pending because of delays in land allocation. Officials said the objective is to ensure that essential infrastructure projects are implemented without further administrative hurdles and that government agencies receive timely access to land required for execution.
The latest decisions are part of the Delhi administration's broader effort to improve infrastructure delivery and inter-departmental coordination. Since assuming office earlier this year, Sandhu has reviewed multiple urban development initiatives, including road improvement projects, Metro expansion and civic infrastructure, with an emphasis on resolving long-pending issues affecting project implementation.
