Highstar unveils battery cell portfolio for AI data centre power infrastructure

Battery manufacturer Highstar has introduced a battery cell portfolio designed for artificial intelligence data centres (AIDCs), targeting power backup and energy storage across multiple infrastructure layers. Announced at the 2026 GGII Energy Storage Industry Summit in China, the solution includes battery cells for uninterruptible power supply (UPS), high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, battery backup units (BBUs) and grid-side energy storage. The company said the portfolio combines lithium-ion and sodium-ion technologies to address increasing power density, thermal management and lifecycle requirements associated with AI-driven computing infrastructure. Highstar also participated in the launch of an industry report on AIDC power supply development and received recognition for its contribution to energy storage technologies.

Highstar has announced a battery cell portfolio designed for artificial intelligence data centre (AIDC) infrastructure, expanding its product offering across power backup and energy storage applications. The products were unveiled at the 2026 GGII Energy Storage Industry Summit held in Nantong, China. 
According to the company, the portfolio is intended to support three critical power layers within AI data centre infrastructure: grey-space uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, white-space battery backup units (BBUs), and grid-side energy storage. 
Highstar stated that the growing adoption of AI workloads has increased rack densities and introduced greater variability in power demand, creating a need for faster response times, dependable backup systems, improved thermal performance and longer battery life. The company said its latest products have been developed to address these operational requirements. 
For grey-space applications, Highstar introduced an 85Ah high-rate lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cell designed for UPS and HVDC systems. The company said the battery supports rapid high-power discharge, thermal management, safety and long-term durability, enabling compact system designs while reducing lifecycle costs. It also showcased a 50Ah sodium-ion battery cell, which it said is capable of operating across a temperature range of -40°C to 80°C. 
For white-space battery backup units located closer to computing equipment, the company introduced a range of tabless cylindrical battery cells in both 18650 and 21700 formats. The portfolio includes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and high-nickel nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistries. According to Highstar, these products are designed to deliver high instantaneous power, lower internal resistance, reduced temperature rise and enhanced safety while accommodating varying rack configurations and power requirements. 
The company's grid-side energy storage offering comprises 314Ah lithium-ion battery cells and 160Ah sodium-ion battery cells. Highstar said these products are intended to support long-duration energy storage, extended cycle life and rapid power delivery, creating an integrated power architecture spanning rack-level protection, system-level backup and upstream energy storage. 
Highstar said the portfolio combines lithium-ion and sodium-ion chemistries across prismatic and cylindrical battery formats. The technologies incorporate developments in cathode, anode, electrolyte and separator materials, together with structural features such as tabless current collection, precision pressure relief and directional venting. 
According to the company, the integrated product architecture is intended to simplify battery selection and system integration for power equipment manufacturers, system integrators and data centre operators. It also aims to support collaborative validation and application-specific development for AI data centre power infrastructure. 
During the summit, Highstar also participated in the launch of the 2026 Global AIDC Power Supply Industry Development Blue Book and received recognition as a "Top Benchmark in AIDC Energy Storage".
