The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a partial demolition of an unauthorised construction at Plots 118, 119 and 120 in Sector 2B, Airoli, during the past week as part of its ongoing drive against illegal developments. The action was undertaken under the directions of the Municipal Commissioner and senior civic officials after the developers allegedly continued construction despite receiving a statutory notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, earlier this year. The demolition was executed by the civic body's encroachment department with the support of labourers, demolition machinery, police personnel and other equipment. The corporation stated that similar enforcement drives against unauthorised constructions across its jurisdiction will continue.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertook a partial demolition of an unauthorised construction at Plots 118, 119 and 120 in Sector 2B, Airoli, during the past week after the project allegedly continued despite statutory action initiated by the civic authority earlier this year. The demolition drive was conducted under the directions of the Municipal Commissioner, with guidance from the Additional Municipal Commissioner and the Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Encroachment), and under the supervision of Sadhana Patil, Assistant Municipal Commissioner and Divisional Officer of the Airoli ward.
According to the civic body, the unauthorised construction was being carried out within the jurisdiction of the G Ward Office by Sanjaykumar Dubey, Pratibhakumari and contractor Santosh Halse. The development was located on Plots 118, 119 and 120 in Sector 2B, Airoli, Navi Mumbai.
The corporation stated that the G Ward Office had issued a notice to the concerned parties under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966, earlier this year. The notice directed the parties to remove the unauthorised construction on their own. However, the civic body said that the construction activity continued despite the statutory notice, prompting the enforcement action.
As part of the demolition operation, NMMC partially removed the unauthorised structure. The drive was organised by the encroachment department of the G Ward Office with the deployment of officials, staff and demolition personnel.
The operation involved 18 labourers, two breakers, two heavy demolition machines, one gas cutter and two generators. Police personnel were also deployed to maintain law and order and provide security throughout the demolition exercise.
NMMC said the demolition formed part of its continuing action against unauthorised constructions within its municipal limits. The corporation added that similar enforcement measures against illegal developments would be intensified in the coming period to curb unauthorised construction activity across the city.
