Engineers India Ltd (EIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) to provide engineering consultancy, technical advisory and project management services for maritime infrastructure projects across India. The partnership will focus on project planning, feasibility studies, technology integration, infrastructure development and capacity enhancement. It also aligns with the government's efforts to modernise the country's maritime sector through improved efficiency, sustainable practices and advanced technologies. The collaboration brings together EIL's engineering expertise and DGMA's regulatory role to support long-term maritime infrastructure development.
State-owned Engineers India Ltd (EIL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) to provide engineering consultancy, technical advisory and project management services for the development and modernisation of India's maritime infrastructure.
The agreement, signed earlier this week, establishes a framework under which EIL will assist the maritime regulator in planning, developing and implementing projects across the sector. According to the company, the collaboration is aimed at strengthening India's maritime infrastructure through technical expertise and project execution support.
As part of the partnership, EIL will use its experience in hydrocarbon, marine and offshore engineering to support DGMA in executing projects intended to enhance the country's maritime capabilities. The scope of work includes feasibility studies, infrastructure planning, technology integration, capacity enhancement and other specialised technical services that will be jointly identified based on project requirements.
The collaboration will also utilise EIL's expertise in engineering, project management, digital solutions, sustainability and infrastructure development to support the implementation of maritime projects. These capabilities are expected to help improve project planning and execution while encouraging the adoption of modern engineering practices across the maritime sector.
The initiative is aligned with the Central government's objective of developing world-class maritime infrastructure and strengthening the maritime sector as a key contributor to economic growth. It is also expected to improve operational efficiency, promote sustainable development and accelerate the use of modern technologies in maritime infrastructure and administration.
The Directorate General of Maritime Administration, formerly known as the Directorate General of Shipping, functions under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The organisation was renamed after the implementation of the Merchant Shipping Act, 2025, reflecting its expanded responsibilities beyond shipping regulation to include broader maritime governance, safety, security, environmental protection and digital administration.
EIL, a public sector engineering consultancy and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has been involved in executing large-scale energy, petrochemical, offshore and infrastructure projects in India and overseas. Through this partnership, the company is expected to extend its engineering capabilities to support the country's growing maritime infrastructure requirements.
