A fire that broke out in a residential high-rise in Thane led to the evacuation of around 80 residents as emergency teams carried out rescue and firefighting operations. The blaze, which reportedly originated in the building's electrical duct, was brought under control without any loss of life. Authorities also rescued a resident trapped inside a lift during the incident. Officials have launched an inquiry into the cause of the fire while assessing the extent of damage to the building's electrical infrastructure.
Residents of a multi-storey housing complex in Thane were evacuated after a fire erupted inside the building, prompting a swift response from emergency services. Firefighters, disaster management personnel and local authorities reached the site soon after receiving the alert and secured the premises before beginning rescue operations.
The fire is believed to have started within the building's electrical duct before smoke spread through common areas, making it unsafe for residents to remain inside. Although the flames were contained, the dense smoke affected access routes, requiring emergency teams to assist occupants in exiting the building safely.
As a precaution, authorities evacuated approximately 80 residents from the tower while firefighters worked to isolate the affected section. During the operation, one resident who was stranded inside a lift was rescued after emergency personnel gained access to the lift shaft. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Fire crews brought the situation under control after preventing the blaze from spreading to residential units. Cooling operations and safety inspections continued even after the fire was extinguished to ensure there was no risk of reignition. Electricity to the affected areas was disconnected during the operation to facilitate safe firefighting and inspection.
