Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured an INR 8,500 crore power transmission project in Andhra Pradesh through the Centre's tariff-based competitive bidding process. The project will strengthen power infrastructure for upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities in the Visakhapatnam region while supporting rising electricity demand from new data centres and digital infrastructure. To be executed through a special purpose vehicle, the project will add 1,582 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity, further expanding AESL's nationwide transmission network.
Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured an INR 8,500 crore interstate power transmission project in Andhra Pradesh through the Centre's tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process. The company emerged as the successful bidder for the project, which is aimed at strengthening the state's transmission infrastructure to support clean energy and industrial growth.
The transmission system has been planned to enable power integration and supply for the proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Visakhapatnam region. These upcoming facilities are expected to require around 4,500 MW of power. In addition, the project will help meet the increasing electricity demand from the Pendurthi-Visakhapatnam corridor, where investments in data centres and digital infrastructure are gathering pace.
The project will be implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named Vizag Power Transmission Ltd.
Under the project scope, AESL will establish a 4×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) at Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam and a 3×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV substation at Khammam-II. The project will also include the development of 1,582 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of additional transformation capacity.
Following the addition of this project, AESL's total transmission network will expand to 29,531 circuit kilometres with a transformation capacity of 1,33,675 MVA, further strengthening its position as India's largest private sector power transmission company.
Commenting on the development, AESL Chief Executive Officer Kandarp Patel said the Vizag transmission project would help build the power infrastructure required for India's next phase of industrial expansion. He added that the project would support the development of green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in Andhra Pradesh while also strengthening the electricity grid to meet the growing demand from emerging digital infrastructure in the Pendurthi-Visakhapatnam region.
The project is expected to be completed within 30 months.
The award adds to AESL's expanding portfolio of transmission projects secured through the tariff-based competitive bidding route. In recent years, the company has continued to increase its presence across India's power transmission sector as the country invests in grid expansion to integrate renewable energy, support industrial development and meet rising electricity demand. AESL also operates across power distribution, smart metering and cooling solutions, making it one of the key private players in India's energy infrastructure sector.
