Synopsis

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has partnered with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish the PNB Quantum Finance Hub at Amaravati Quantum Valley, marking the first such collaboration between a public sector bank and a state government in India. The initiative aims to promote innovation in banking by leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing while addressing cybersecurity and fraud risks. The hub will bring together startups, academia, industry and government agencies to develop future-ready banking solutions, support research, encourage skill development and strengthen India's digital financial ecosystem.

Punjab National Bank (PNB) and the Andhra Pradesh government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the PNB Quantum Finance Hub at Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV), with the objective of accelerating innovation and the adoption of next-generation technologies in the banking sector.
On the occasion, PNB Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ashok Chandra inaugurated the hub, making PNB the first bank in India to partner with a state government to set up a dedicated innovation hub for the banking sector.
The Quantum Finance Hub will function as a collaborative platform connecting industry, academic institutions, startups and government agencies to develop practical technology-driven solutions for banking. The initiative will focus on improving banking services, strengthening cybersecurity, enhancing fraud detection systems, optimising business operations and improving customer experience.
The bank said the financial sector is undergoing rapid digital transformation while facing increasingly complex cyber threats, large-scale financial fraud attempts and evolving security challenges. At the same time, emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Computing are transforming the global financial ecosystem. While these technologies can improve operational efficiency, customer service and risk management, banks also need to strengthen their digital infrastructure to address future security risks.
According to PNB, the Quantum Finance Hub will support the development, testing and adoption of secure, intelligent and future-ready banking solutions. It will also encourage collaborative research, promote innovation among startups, strengthen partnerships between industry and academic institutions, and help create a skilled workforce to support the next phase of digital transformation in the financial services sector.
The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and PNB MD and CEO Ashok Chandra.
Speaking at the event, Naidu said the state's vision is to develop Amaravati into a global centre for deep technologies and innovation. He added that Amaravati Quantum Valley is the first of several innovation ecosystems being developed in the city, and said the establishment of the PNB Quantum and AI Finance Innovation Hub marks another important milestone in achieving that vision.
Ashok Chandra said that through the partnership with the Andhra Pradesh government and Amaravati Quantum Valley, PNB aims to utilise the potential of Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence to strengthen cybersecurity, improve operational efficiency, enhance customer experience and prepare the bank for the future of digital banking. He added that the hub will also serve as a centre for research, innovation, incubation and acceleration of next-generation financial technologies.
Amaravati Quantum Valley has been positioned by the Andhra Pradesh government as a technology-focused ecosystem to attract investments in deep-tech sectors, including quantum technologies, Artificial Intelligence and advanced computing. The latest partnership with PNB adds the banking sector to the initiative and is expected to encourage collaboration between financial institutions, technology companies and research organisations to develop advanced digital finance solutions.
