The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has allocated INR 28 crore for infrastructure development in Vizianagaram and Nellimarla municipalities, with a focus on improving roads, parks, drainage and urban amenities.Key projects include the widening of the 1.45-km Seetham College–JNTU master plan road to 80 feet at an estimated cost of INR 7.2 crore, alongside civic infrastructure works across Vizianagaram municipality. Of the total allocation, INR 16 crore has been sanctioned for development works in Vizianagaram municipality, while INR 4 crore has been earmarked for Nellimarla. The authority has also committed additional funding after the completion of ongoing projects. The initiative forms part of VMRDA's broader strategy to strengthen urban infrastructure and support balanced regional development across its jurisdiction.
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has announced an investment of INR 28 crore for infrastructure development in Vizianagaram and Nellimarla municipalities, reinforcing its efforts to improve civic infrastructure and support planned urban growth in the region. The projects include road widening, park development, drainage works and other public infrastructure aimed at enhancing connectivity and quality of life.
During a visit to the VMRDA zonal office in Vizianagaram, VMRDA Chairman M.V. Pranav Gopal said the authority is prioritising the transformation of smaller urban centres by creating modern infrastructure across constituencies under its jurisdiction. He noted that the current investments are part of a broader programme to strengthen urban amenities and accommodate future development.
A major component of the investment is the widening of the 1.45-km Seetham College–JNTU master plan road to 80 feet, a project estimated to cost around INR 7.2 crore. The road upgrade is expected to improve traffic flow and provide better connectivity between key educational institutions and surrounding residential areas.
VMRDA has also sanctioned INR 16 crore for infrastructure works within Vizianagaram municipality. In the previous financial year, nearly INR 1 crore was utilised for the development of Gandhi Park and PSR Park. During the current financial year, INR 10 crore has already been released for projects involving roads, drainage systems and culverts, with an additional INR 5 crore proposed after the ongoing works are completed. Separately, INR 4 crore has been allocated for development works in Nellimarla municipality.
The authority said the investments are intended to address infrastructure gaps while supporting the region's growing population and urban expansion. Improved road connectivity, upgraded public spaces and enhanced civic facilities are expected to contribute to better mobility and overall urban living standards.
The latest allocation aligns with VMRDA's long-term urban development strategy, which focuses on strengthening infrastructure across the Visakhapatnam metropolitan region through phased investments in transportation, public amenities and municipal services. Officials said continued infrastructure spending will play a key role in promoting balanced regional development and improving the quality of civic infrastructure in emerging urban centres
