The Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) has proposed the construction of a 100-foot-wide link road connecting National Highway 140 (Tirupati–Chittoor–Bengaluru) and National Highway 71 (Nellore–Renigunta) as part of its efforts to strengthen road infrastructure and improve traffic movement in the rapidly expanding temple city. The proposal has been submitted to the Andhra Pradesh government for consideration.
According to TUDA, the proposed road is intended to establish a direct connection between the two major highways, creating an alternative corridor for both passenger and freight traffic. The new route is expected to reduce dependence on existing urban roads, which currently experience heavy congestion due to increasing vehicle volumes and the movement of interstate traffic.
The authority believes the project will significantly improve mobility by diverting through traffic away from densely populated areas while providing better access to emerging residential layouts, commercial developments and future urban growth zones. The link road is also expected to enhance connectivity to important transport corridors serving Tirupati and neighbouring districts.
The proposal forms part of TUDA's broader urban planning strategy aimed at supporting the city's rapid expansion through improved road infrastructure. With Tirupati witnessing sustained growth in population, tourism and economic activity, authorities have been focusing on expanding the transport network to meet future mobility requirements and minimise traffic bottlenecks.
Officials said the project would not only improve commuting efficiency but also facilitate smoother movement of goods by providing a more direct connection between the two national highways. The proposed corridor is expected to complement existing road infrastructure while supporting planned urban development in surrounding areas.
The project will move forward after the state government reviews the proposal and grants the necessary approvals. If sanctioned, the 100-foot-wide link road is expected to become an important component of Tirupati's long-term infrastructure development plan, improving regional connectivity and supporting the city's continued urban growth.
