Knauf India launches HeatBloc gypsum plasterboard for improved thermal insulation

Knauf India has introduced HeatBloc, a gypsum plasterboard designed to enhance indoor thermal comfort and improve energy efficiency in residential and commercial buildings. Announced in the past week, the product features a polyester-metallised aluminium foil backing that reflects up to 85% of solar radiation, helping reduce heat ingress through walls and ceilings. Available in 9.5 mm and 12.5 mm variants, HeatBloc is intended for ceiling and wall applications respectively and complies with IS 2095 (Part 1):2023 Type A standards. The launch comes as the construction sector increasingly adopts building materials that improve energy performance and respond to rising temperatures across Indian cities.

Knauf India has launched HeatBloc, a gypsum plasterboard developed to improve thermal management in buildings by reducing heat ingress through walls and ceilings. Announced in the past week, the product is designed for use in residential and commercial projects where enhancing indoor comfort and improving energy efficiency have become key considerations amid rising temperatures. 
The new plasterboard incorporates a polyester-metallised aluminium foil backing that reflects thermal radiation before it enters interior spaces. According to the company, HeatBloc is capable of reflecting up to 85% of solar radiation, helping to minimise heat transfer into buildings. By limiting heat gain at the source, the product is intended to reduce cooling loads and support lower energy consumption for air-conditioning systems. 
HeatBloc has been introduced in two thickness options to suit different construction requirements. The 9.5 mm board is designed primarily for ceiling systems, while the 12.5 mm variant is intended for wall linings and drywall applications that require greater structural stability. The product is manufactured in accordance with IS 2095 (Part 1):2023 Type A standards, ensuring compliance with Indian specifications for gypsum plasterboards. 
In addition to its thermal performance, the plasterboard features a smooth surface finish intended to facilitate seamless interior applications. Its metallic foil backing also enables easier identification during installation, allowing contractors and installers to distinguish the product on-site. 
Commenting on the launch, Vijay Mishra, Commercial Director at Knauf, said that rising temperatures across Indian cities were increasing the need for building materials that improve thermal comfort. He stated that solutions capable of reducing heat ingress could contribute to more comfortable indoor environments while lowering dependence on cooling systems. He added that HeatBloc forms part of the company's broader portfolio of products aimed at supporting energy-efficient and climate-responsive construction practices. 
The introduction of HeatBloc comes as developers, architects and contractors increasingly focus on materials that improve building performance while supporting sustainability objectives. With energy efficiency becoming a key consideration in both residential and commercial developments, thermal insulation solutions are gaining greater prominence in building design. 
Knauf India expects products that address practical challenges such as heat gain to witness wider adoption as the construction sector continues to shift towards performance-driven and environmentally responsive building solutions.
