Synopsis

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has approved financial assistance of nearly INR 15,056 crore for 6,175 rural infrastructure projects in Haryana under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). The investment will support infrastructure such as roads, irrigation systems and drinking water facilities while strengthening rural connectivity and public services. The announcement coincided with NABARD's 45th Foundation Day celebrations, where the institution also highlighted its ongoing initiatives in rural finance, farmer collectives, women's empowerment and sustainable agricultural development.

Haryana is set to receive a major boost to its rural infrastructure after the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) confirmed cumulative financial assistance of nearly INR 15,056 crore for projects sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). Spread across 6,175 projects, the funding has been directed towards strengthening essential infrastructure in villages, with investments covering sectors that directly influence agricultural activity, rural mobility and access to basic public services.
The announcement was made during NABARD's 45th Foundation Day programme in Haryana, where representatives from the state government, banking institutions, cooperative bodies and development organisations reviewed the institution's contribution to rural development over the years. The discussions focused on expanding infrastructure alongside improving financial inclusion, strengthening local institutions and supporting sustainable economic growth in rural areas.
According to NABARD, infrastructure financed through the RIDF has included rural roads, irrigation facilities and drinking water projects that are intended to improve connectivity and enhance the availability of essential services in villages. These investments form part of a broader effort to create infrastructure capable of supporting agricultural productivity and improving living conditions in rural communities. The institution noted that infrastructure development continues to remain one of its principal areas of intervention in Haryana.
Alongside infrastructure financing, NABARD highlighted its work in strengthening rural institutions across the state. The organisation has supported the digitisation and computerisation of 710 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and facilitated the establishment of 131 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). These producer collectives now connect more than 63,000 farmers, enabling greater access to organised markets, institutional finance and agricultural value chains.
The institution also reviewed programmes aimed at expanding livelihood opportunities beyond agriculture. Skill development initiatives undertaken during recent years have trained thousands of rural women in activities including food processing, dairy farming, tailoring, handicrafts and mushroom cultivation. NABARD stated that it has additionally supported climate-resilient farming practices through watershed management, groundwater conservation, micro-irrigation and Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR), alongside extending financial assistance to eligible Farmer Producer Organisations.
The Foundation Day programme also featured the release of publications documenting development initiatives undertaken across Haryana and recognised the contribution of cooperative institutions, Farmer Producer Organisations, artisans and women entrepreneurs working in the rural economy. The event reflected NABARD's continued emphasis on combining infrastructure investment with institutional development and livelihood generation to support balanced rural growth across the state.
