Sun Phu Quoc Airways has signed a strategic agreement with SmartKargo to deploy a cloud-based cargo management platform as it builds its air cargo business. The move comes as the Vietnamese airline prepares to expand its international network and induct Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft from September 2026, increasing its cargo capacity. The platform will support end-to-end cargo operations, improve efficiency and strengthen digital capabilities. The partnership also aligns with Vietnam's growing air cargo market, driven by exports, manufacturing and the rapid growth of e-commerce.
Sun Phu Quoc Airways has entered into a strategic agreement with SmartKargo to implement a cloud-native cargo management platform, laying the foundation for its cargo operations as the airline expands its international presence. The partnership will enable the Vietnamese full-service carrier to establish a fully digital and scalable cargo business through a unified cloud-based system.
The agreement marks an important step in the airline's strategy to make cargo a key contributor to its commercial growth. By deploying SmartKargo's platform, Sun Phu Quoc Airways will manage its cargo operations through a single integrated system designed to support modern air freight requirements, including operational management, commercial activities and digital processes.
The development comes as the airline continues to strengthen Phu Quoc's position as an emerging aviation gateway in Southeast Asia while expanding its international route network. A major milestone in this expansion is the planned induction of Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft from September 2026, which is expected to significantly increase belly cargo capacity across international routes. The airline considers the deployment of a scalable cargo management platform an essential part of preparing for this expansion.
The cargo platform will also support Sun Phu Quoc Airways' broader digital transformation programme as it works towards its goal of becoming a five-star international airline. The airline believes digital infrastructure will play an important role in improving operational efficiency, supporting commercial growth and strengthening long-term competitiveness.
Vietnam's air cargo industry has witnessed steady growth in recent years, supported by the country's expanding export sector, rising e-commerce activity and increasing role as a manufacturing and logistics hub in Southeast Asia. Industry experts have also noted that growing regional trade, supply chain diversification and cross-border e-commerce continue to create demand for efficient air cargo services, providing opportunities for airlines to strengthen cargo operations.
Truong Ngo Quoc, Chief Information Officer of Sun Phu Quoc Airways, said the airline is building its cargo business with a focus on technology, commercial flexibility and future expansion. Following an extensive evaluation process, the airline selected SmartKargo because its platform could meet current operational requirements while supporting future network growth. He added that the digital platform would help the airline compete in regional and global cargo markets while supporting the development of Vietnam's aviation cargo sector.
Olivier Houri, Chief Revenue Officer of SmartKargo, said Southeast Asia remains one of the world's fastest-growing air cargo markets, with Vietnam playing a central role in that growth. He said the partnership reflects both companies' shared view that technology is essential for building a commercially competitive and operationally efficient cargo business. He added that SmartKargo is committed to supporting the airline's long-term cargo ambitions.
SmartKargo provides cloud-native air cargo management solutions that help airlines manage cargo operations and expand into e-commerce logistics. The company enables airlines to develop additional revenue opportunities through air cargo and parcel delivery services. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, SmartKargo also has offices in India, the Philippines, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Canada.
Sun Phu Quoc Airways was launched by Sun Group in November 2025 as Vietnam's premium full-service airline. Operating from its hub in Phu Quoc, the airline is developing an international network connecting Vietnam with destinations including Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok. It also plans to expand services to Malaysia, India, Japan, Russia and Kazakhstan while strengthening cargo operations alongside its passenger business.
