IKEA is planning to strengthen its presence in the Delhi-NCR market by expanding to around six stores over the next few years through a mix of city-format and large-format outlets. The company is set to open its second city-format store in the region at DLF Avenue, Saket, while large-format stores are already planned in Noida and Gurugram. The expansion is part of IKEA's broader India strategy, which includes increasing investments, expanding e-commerce operations, and reaching more customers through multiple retail formats.
IKEA India is planning a major expansion in the Delhi-NCR region with a target of operating around six stores over the next couple of years. The expansion will include a combination of city-format stores and large-format concept stores as the Swedish furniture retailer looks to strengthen its presence across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad.
As part of this plan, IKEA India has announced the launch of its second city-format store in Delhi-NCR at DLF Avenue, Saket. The new outlet, spread across nearly 30,000 square feet, is scheduled to open on July 30 and will serve customers across South Delhi, Central Delhi and nearby locations.
IKEA India Country Commercial Manager Adosh Sharma said the company sees strong growth opportunities across the NCR region. He indicated that the retailer is targeting nearly six stores across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad over the next few years.
The company currently operates a city-format store at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden, while large-format stores have already been planned for Noida and Gurugram. Sharma also indicated that IKEA sees the potential to add at least two more stores in the future, with Faridabad being one of the possible locations.
IKEA entered the Delhi-NCR market through its e-commerce platform in 2025 before opening its first city-format store at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden. The expansion was supported by a central distribution centre in Gurugram, helping the company strengthen deliveries and fulfilment across the region. IKEA said customer feedback and shopping behaviour from its first Delhi-NCR outlet have played an important role in shaping its expansion plans.
The retailer has been adapting its India strategy by increasing the number of smaller city-format stores alongside its traditional large-format outlets. While a full-format IKEA store generally spans more than 4 lakh square feet, city-format stores typically range from 15,000 square feet to 80,000 square feet, depending on the location and customer demand. This approach allows the company to establish a presence in densely populated urban markets where large land parcels are limited.
In the past week, IKEA India Chief Executive Officer Patrik Antoni had said the company aims to operate around 30 stores across India by 2030, comprising both large-format stores and smaller city-format outlets. The long-term plan reflects IKEA's strategy of expanding through multiple retail formats while increasing accessibility for customers across major cities.
The company has also announced plans to more than double its investment in India to over INR 21,000 crore by 2030. Along with expanding its physical store network, IKEA continues to strengthen its e-commerce business in northern India. It currently serves customers in several cities, including Agra, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana and Varanasi through its online platform.
Speaking about the company's logistics strategy, Sharma said IKEA is closely studying the rapid growth of e-commerce and quick commerce before taking any decision on expanding its delivery hub and fulfilment centre network. He said the company understands that quick commerce has expanded beyond groceries into several product categories, and IKEA is carefully evaluating the business model before introducing any such services.
The upcoming Saket store will offer customers home furnishing planning services along with delivery, assembly and installation support. Visitors will also have access to food and beverages through the IKEA Café, adding to the in-store shopping experience.
IKEA said its expansion in Delhi-NCR is supported by a growing customer base in the region, which now includes more than 3 lakh IKEA Family members. The company has been steadily increasing its presence in India since opening its first store in Hyderabad in 2018, followed by stores in Navi Mumbai, Bengaluru and Mumbai, while continuing to invest in omnichannel retail, logistics infrastructure and local sourcing as part of its long-term growth strategy.
