Bondada Engineering has secured an order from NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd to develop a 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage System (VRFB BESS) at Gujarat's Khavda Solar Park. The project, to be executed with Delectrik Systems Pvt Ltd as the technology partner, also includes a 10-year operations and maintenance contract. While the project value has not been disclosed, the order marks Bondada Engineering's entry into long-duration energy storage technologies and supports India's growing focus on strengthening renewable energy integration into the national power grid.
Bondada Engineering has secured an order from NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd to develop a 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Energy Storage System (VRFB BESS) at the Khavda Solar Park in Gujarat, strengthening its presence in India's fast-growing energy storage segment.
The project will be executed in partnership with Delectrik Systems Pvt Ltd, which will serve as the technology partner. The scope of work also includes a 10-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract. However, the company has not disclosed the financial value of the order.
The project marks Bondada Engineering's entry into Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) technologies, expanding its portfolio beyond its existing infrastructure and renewable energy businesses. The development also strengthens the company's position in India's evolving Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market, where demand is increasing alongside the rapid addition of renewable energy capacity.
The battery energy storage system will be deployed at the Khavda Solar Park, one of India's largest renewable energy projects, which is being developed as a major clean energy hub. Battery storage systems are increasingly being integrated with large renewable energy projects to improve grid stability, store surplus power generated during peak production hours, and ensure electricity is available when renewable generation is lower.
The project will use Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) technology, a long-duration energy storage solution that offers advantages over conventional Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery systems. VRFB technology is known for its longer operational life, high safety standards, ability to withstand repeated charge and discharge cycles with minimal degradation, and suitability for storing renewable energy over extended durations.
Commenting on the development, Rear Admiral R. Sreenivas, VSM (Retd), Group Chief Executive Officer of Bondada Engineering, said that the order from NTPC Renewable Energy represents a defining milestone in the company's growth journey as it expands into advanced energy storage technologies.
India has been increasing its focus on battery energy storage systems to support its renewable energy targets. With the share of solar and wind power rising in the country's energy mix, large-scale storage projects are expected to play a key role in balancing power supply, improving grid reliability, and enabling round-the-clock renewable energy availability. Government agencies and public sector companies, including NTPC Renewable Energy, have been actively promoting advanced storage technologies as part of this transition.
